The Fourth  Sunday after Pentecost

Fighting Summer Hunger Challenge

We have been challenged to a friendly competition by some of our neighboring parishes to see who can raise the most food to assist hungry people in our area.  In the summer, donations to local food banks typically becomes sparse, as so many of us travel, and the needs of the food banks fall off our radar.

  • The Food Bank Network is now serving more than 800 families a month, which includes more than 3,000 individuals.
  • In New Jersey the monthly participation in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as Food Stamps) rose from 437,860 in 2008 to 826,134 in 2012.

The Food Bank relies heavily on our donations to keep their shelves stocked.  The goal is to get more than 50,000 pounds of food supplies donated and collected during the month of June.  It is a competition where there are no losers.  Everyone wins, especially our neighbors who are hungry!  To participate in the challenge, you can donate money through the parish office, or click here to donate directly through the website.
