The Fifth Sunday of Lent

Tuesday Evening Prayer and Pot-Luck Suppers:  Praying in Lent

On Tuesdays evenings at 6:00 pm, the community will gather for Evening Prayer in the Chapel, followed by a simple pot-luck supper. Members of our community will preside at this simple service of prayer. Bring a dish to share for supper, and come and allow the word of God to wash over you, and pray with the assembled community, as our ancestors did before us.  Join us on March 19th.

Adult Ed - "Crash Course" on Triduum

There will be a Parish Meeting on Palm Sunday, March 24th, immediately following the 10 am service, to prepare for our coming High Holy Days.  Mother Susan will provide a "crash course" on the Paschal Triduum, and we will talk about how our community will celebrate the days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Great Vigil of Easter.  Our candidate for Holy Baptism, Melissa Sharron, will share some of her story of her call to the waters of baptism.  Please join us for this wonderful opportunity in our common life.

Ushers Needed

Please consider joining this important ministry.  Greeting people, distributing bulletins, conveying the sacred elements to the altar, and inviting parishioners to partake of Communion are central to our worship services.  No experience needed.  To sign-up or for more information contact Fenn Putman 973-543-7017 or email fennironia@earthlink.net.

Volunteers Needed for Yard Clean-Up

Join us on Saturday, March 23rd at 9:30 am as we clean-up the grounds in preparation for Holy Week and Easter Sunday.  Refreshments will be served.

Easter Flowers & Special Music Dedications

St. John on the Mountain is now accepting contributions for Easter plants, flowers, and special music.  Gifts may be given either as memorials or in thanksgiving. Click here to download form.

Handbell Choir - Ringers Needed

Do you love music but consider yourself more of an instrumentalist than a singer?  The Hand Bell Choir of St. John on the Mountain has several openings for ringers.  No prior experience with hand bells is required but reading music is necessary, especially being able to count those naughty half notes, quarter notes and eighth notes!  If you are interested in trying it, please contact  Rick Morgan, Director of Music for more information.

Music in the Somerset Hills Concert Spanish Guitar Duo Emericus - this Sunday, March 17th at 4 pm

On Sunday, March 17th at 4 pm Music in the Somerset Hills will present Emericus in concert at St. John on the Mountain in Parish Hall.  Emericus is the husband and wife duo composed of Elise Figa, a mezzo-soprano, and Carlos Cuestas, a classical guitarist and specialist in early plucked-string instruments.  Their program, Música de España, features art song from 17th and 19th century Spain on themes of love, longing and travel, performed on historical guitars.  Join them for an imaginary journey through the streets of Old Europe, accompanied by lavishly romantic music that embodies the legendary spirit of passion so central to this culture.  Tickets are $20 each for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students.  They may be purchased online at www.MusicSH.org, or at the door while supplies last.

The Paschal Triduum

The Paschal Triduum - March 28th, 29th, & 30th.  The Three Holy Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Great Vigil of Easter, are the center of our Christian year and our common life. In these days we fully enter into the Mystery of the Passion, Death, and Glorious Rising of the Lord Jesus, who we know to be among us.  The liturgy is so rich that it takes three days to unfold.  The Rector, Wardens, Vestry, Staff, and People of St. John on the Mountain invite you to be with us as we celebrate the Paschal Triduum.  Please consider honoring us with your presence and sharing with us in the Divine life of the Lord Jesus who has made us his Sacred Body in the world.
