Greetings! Last week Ferrum College looked like a winter wonderland in the aftermath of an amazing "Centennial Snowfall," and yes, we're turning every event this academic year into a centennial celebration, even the ones provided by Mother Nature! Enjoy more photos from the historic snowfall here.
 Also last week, Ferrum College President Jennifer Braaten, Assistant Professor of Biology and Environmental Science Glen Stevens, and Energy Manager Christian Bedard attended the "Energy & Sustainability Conference" sponsored by Virginia Commonwealth University on February 11 and 12 in Richmond. The Conference brought together more than 800 participants, including national business and institutional leaders, to discuss the issues impacting energy and sustainability strategies. Students Dean "Trey" Ousterhout '16 and Kyra Schultz '16 also attended the Conference, which Ousterhout described as "extraordinary." Read more here. |
Alum Phil Elmassian Returns as New Defensive Coordinator
This week Ferrum College introduced Phil Elmassian as Defensive Coordinator for the College's football program. Elmassian, who first came to Ferrum in 1969 when he played football for Hank Norton, returns to Ferrum after a 31 years away from the Panther gridiron program. One of the most sought-after defensive coaches in the country returns to his roots to help give back to the school where he started. Read more about Elmassian and watch media coverage here. |

Ag Club Members Attend National Conference
On Feb. 7, six Ferrum College Agriculture Club and Collegiate Young Farmers students traveled to Virginia Beach to represent both Ferrum College and the State of Virginia at the National Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference. Junior Mary Hammock competed in the Collegiate Discussion Meet at the national level. Read more here.

Women's Basketball Jumps Five Spots to #12
Both the women's and men's basket ball teams play a pair of USA South road games this weekend.
The Ferrum College women's basketball team has jumped five spots, and is now ranked #12 in the nation in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll. The Panthers also climbed three spots in the D3hoops.com poll and are ranked #15 nationally by the online publication.
On Wednesday, six players scored in double figures as Ferrum College mauled Mary Baldwin College 99-31 in USA South Athletic Conference women's basketball action on the road.
The Ferrum women (21-2, 15-2 USA South) return to action this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22-23, with a pair of USA South road games. Coach Bryan Harvey's team will play at Methodist University Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and at North Carolina Wesleyan College Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Read more here.
The Ferrum men's basketball team (10-13) closes out regular season action with a pair of USA South road games Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22-23. Coach Bill Tharp's team plays at Methodist University Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and at North Carolina Wesleyan College Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
