Ferrum College Establishes New Equestrian Club, Plans for Intercollegiate Competition

A partnership with Healing Strides of Virginia offers students riding, learning and volunteer opportunities.
Ferrum College has established a new equestrian club in partnership with Healing Strides of Virginia, a therapeutic riding facility in Boones Mill. In addition to weekly riding lessons, student club members will volunteer five hours a week at the facility and have the opportunity to participate in horsemanship clinics through which they can improve their horsemanship skills. Equestrian club coach Margaret Johnson Cornwell '02, who competed as a Ferrum student on the College's former equestrian team says that as a club team, Ferrum students will be able to compete in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association shows starting in fall 2014. Ferrum College 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient Alfred "Al" Midgett '79
The Ferrum College Alumni Board of Directors is looking for candidates to receive our Distinguished Alumni Award for 2014. Each nominated candidate must have displayed outstanding contributions in one or more of the following areas:
Professional Achievement and Career or Military Service Distinction
Service to their Community
Service and Support to Ferrum College
Eligible nominees should be an alumnus or alumna of Ferrum College. If not a Ferrum graduate, nominees should have attended Ferrum College (as a Junior College attendee) for at least three or more semesters, or attended Ferrum College (as a four-year college) for six or more semesters. Nominees should have been active in College life during their time at Ferrum and have remained involved in and supportive of Ferrum College as alumni. Individuals can be nominated posthumously.
