 Spring Break 2016

Spring break is a time for students to take time off of school and prepare to finish the end of the school year. Often times, with time off of school there is a learning loss.  However, at the Club staff strive to curb the learning loss by continuing fun and exciting programs with proven  outcomes during school breaks.

Over Spring break, Club members enjoyed a themed  week that included pajama day, sports team day and wacky Wednesday!  Club staff prepared fun and exciting learning activities that played into the theme of each of the days of the week.  Members had the chance to participate in a "Lights, Camera, Action" program that allowed them to learn about taking pictures in different lights, angles, and how to edit them.  Members also had the opportunity on Wacky Wednesday to write a creative, fun, wacky story!  Members were able to proof read their stories and share their stories with the group!   Through out the week the computer based  educational STRIDE Academy program was offered, as well as "NetSmartz" an online program aimed to teach members how to safely and smartly use the computers and internet programs at the Club! Spring Break is an excellent week for members to participate in the non-traditional educational style of programming at the Club, but still have fun in a safe and productive environment.
Junior Staff Volunteer at Winter After Hours

Community Service is an important part of the Club experience. During the month of February Club staff brought teen Junior Staff members to Boyd Park every Thursday night for Volume One's Winter After Hours to assist in the festivities. These members voluntarily served their Club and community through the Junior Staff program staffing the Snowshoe Station. The 16 pairs of snowshoes, donated by Scheels, ranging in size from youth to adult, were available to community members to rent for a small fee! All snowshoe rental fees collected were given to the Club. Members did a great job assisting in the fitting of snowshoes, as well as showing community members how to use them and, most importantly, had a fun experience participating in the event.  Thank you to Volume One for this opportunity and to Scheels for the materials to make this happen for the second year in a row!

Sponsor Spotlight

WEAU 13 News provides a great public service to not only those who watch their station, but to the whole community by making it a priority to give back to organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley. The Club would like the thank WEAU 13 News for their continuous partnership. WEAU is a constant media sponsor, promoter and presenter of each major Boys & Girls Club event.

WEAU continues to be a great partner and advocate for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley.  In the past, members have been invited to the news station to learn about career opportunities in broadcast journalism and to meet the local stars. The studio has created wonderful commercials and promotional videos for the Club's special events including an Evening of Wine & Cheese, Annual Steak & Burger Dinner, Great Futures Dinner, Men Who Cook, Kick Off for Kids, Lemonade Day and KidStock. They have given the Club the opportunity to share the amazing stories of members and give families the information they need to find the Club for their children. Due to their involvement and numerous live interviews, news stories and commercials the Club has received national Boys & Girls Clubs of America Marketing Awards.  In addition to air time, WEAU currently has representation on the Corporate Board of Directors, their General Manager Terry McHugh.  Mr. McHugh is on the Executive Committee and is the Past Board of Directors President of the Club. WEAU has been represented on our board for 9 years. The local celebrities from the station have hosted many or the Clubs signature fundraisers such as the Great Futures Dinner and Annual Steak & Burger Dinner, participated in Men Who Cook, and even created programs for members.

WEAU's sponsorship has greatly influenced the Club's growth over the past several years and our visibility in the community.

Thank you WEAU for your continued support of our community youth!
