Great Futures Start Here

The last week in March was Boys & Girls Club Week- a week dedicated to inviting the community to tour their local Boys & Girls Club and learn about how the Club supports youth and the community. Since the Club opened in October of last year, members have been participating in positive, fun, structured programs to help them with homework, allow them new opportunities, and ensure a safe place to go after school.  All programs offered at the Club focus on three primary outcome areas to guide members to a great future: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship.

During Boys & Girls Club week, members shared  when their "Great Future" started.  Many members shared experiences about when their family received a new pet, when they met their best friend or when they went to the Boys & Girls Club for the first time.  Others included areas of academic success such as winning the spelling bee or earning an "A" on a school project.  Members were excited to share a turning point in their life and it allowed them to reflect on what is important in their lives!

 Thank You Culver's!

Gary, Owner of Culver's in Menomonie, stopped by the Club to surprise members with a cool treat!  Members were delighted not only with the custard, but also with Gary's company.  Gary explained why better beef makes a better burger at Culver's, as well as what the difference is between ice cream and custard.  Listening to Gary talk about owning the business sparked great conversation between members about business ownership and keeping business local.  Thank you Gary and Culver's for giving this opportunity to the members at the Boys & Girls Club in Menomonie!

Club AmeriCorps Thank Mayor of Menomonie
On April 7th, Club AmeriCorps thanked Randy Knaack for his dedication and service to the city of Menomonie with a handmade card, signed by Club members.  The 3rd Annual Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, was celebrated across the United States with tremendous amounts of participation.  In 2014, over 1,700 mayors hosted special events to recognize those that serve in the community.  This year, AmeriCorps across the US thanked local Mayors for all their hard work!
Mayor Knaack will be hosting a program at the Club soon to discuss his responsibilities as a Mayor with the members, and talk about how youth about can set themselves up for future success and become involved with their community!
Boys & Girls Club March Youth of the Month

We would like to introduce you to Denny and Kajsiab, the Menomonie Center's March Youth of the Month.  Each month, staff choose one boy and one girl at the Club who have shown positive behavior and engage at the Club on a regular basis.  Youth chosen receive a prize from the Club incentive program, as well as extra raffle tickets to win prizes.

Congratulations to Denny and Kajsiab!

It is the vision of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley to become an ongoing

community resource to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring

and responsible citizens.  With your help, it is possible!
