SPIRIT OF CANADA OCEAN CHALLENGE PRIZE PROUD SPONSOR OF THE LOOR SERIES
Derek Hatfield and the Spirit of Canada Ocean Challenges Team are proud to support the Lake Ontario Offshore Racing series.
After many years of honing his sailing and racing skills in the singlehanded racing series out of the Port Credit Yacht Club, Derek went on to attain two podium finishes for Canada and compete in three singlehanded around the world races; Around Alone 2002, Vendee Globe 2008 and the Velux 5 Oceans 2010. With 200,000 nm of singlehanded racing under his belt, Derek knows what it takes to compete in shorthanded offshore sailing events.
Derek is following through with his belief that it is his responsibility to share his unique sailing experiences to fellow sailors and has expanded Spirit of Canada Ocean Challenges to offer sailing opportunities that include offshore training sessions on a Volvo 60 grand prix yacht. The training sessions are not only a great way for Derek and the team to stay in shape but a great personal challenge for people just like you who want to experience an ocean passage in a safe, reliable and trusted offshore sailboat. This truly is a world-class adventure with a world class skipper aboard a fully commercially coded podium finishing boat.
This year any skipper that finishes is eligible for the draw that will happen at the LOSHRS 100 mile Race for one of the sessions.
The sessions include a safety at sea seminar and an offshore passage from Canada to Bermuda, France, Spain, Caribbean and South Africa. "It is the crew working together to reach a particular destination that is the reward upon arrival", says Derek of the adventures. Never before has this type of offshore sailing been offered in Canada and there is a great response, not just from racers, but for all those that dream of going to sea and experiencing a grand prix sailboat normally utilized by professional teams in around the world races.Offshore training opportunities include:* Bermuda - June & July 2013* Canaries - October 2013* Christmas Rally - Canaries to Antigua - December 2013* Caribbean 600 - February 2014* Heineken Regatta - March 2014* Voile de St. Barth's - March 2014* Antigua Sailing Week - April 2014* Antigua - Lunenburg May 2014* Bermuda - June 2014* Cape Town S.A. - October 2014For the complete details of offshore events:Phone 902.529.2626Email:sail@spiritofcanada.net
