Welcome Back to our great Sponsors

The races that the Lake Ontario Racing Group offers would not be possible without the support of our great sponsors. We would like to announce a few of the returning sponsors to this year's events.

Sperry Top-Sider will continue its sponsorship of the Susan Hood Trophy Race and the Lake Ontario 300.
Sperry Top-Sider will be sponsoring the Sperry Post Race BBQ at the Susan Hood Trophy Race as well as providing skippers T-Shirts.
Sperry Top-Sider will also be sponsoring the famous pre-race breakfast at the Lake Ontario 300 and will be providing crew t-shirts to our participants. Sperry has been an excellent sponsor and have donated both the Sperry Cup for First overall in PRHF and the Sperry Gold Cup for first overall IRC.

The Store Masons Chandlery will once again be our regalia sponsor and will be developing another excellent retail program that everyone will be able to take advantage of on-site and before the race through the internet. Mason's will once again have a shop set up on site to provide last minute items for all participants.

The Rigging Shoppe will once again be our Friday night sponsor. Rigging shoppe has been an excellent supporter of off-shore racing and a wealth of information to all offshore racing participants.

North Sails will again be providing the winners flags for the SHTR and the LO300! These spectacular flags are well known and flown with great pride by previous race winners.

Mount Gay is back this year with a new rum. Mount Gay Eclipse Silver will be featured in drink specials at the SHTR and LO300. Mount Gay will be providing hats this year with the new logo. They will also be holding a "tattered and torn" contest to find the hat most appreciated with the old logo.

UK Sails will be continuing their sponsorship of the LOSHRS series. UK provides flags for all participants in the LOSHRS and is a huge supporter of offshore racing on Lake Ontario.

We will be announcing more sponsors in each newsletter going forward. If you know of a company that would like to capitalize on the excellent exposure we provide, please feel free to contact Brian Townsend bdtownsend@rogers.com

 Sincerely,
Darren Gornall

Susan Hood Trophy Race

The Susan Hood Trophy Race is the first offshore race of the year and like Easter, it is coming early this year. May 31st is the date of this year's early season challenge and based on the snow that has kept hanging around it may definitely be the "Coolest Race on the Lake".
So far there is a record number 47 entries signed up with 11 boats entered into the IRC division. Last year we had over 90 boats on the starting line for a shortened race that was an out and back to the Burlington weather mark under high winds. Carbonado, the McConaghy 38 was our Susan Hood Trophy  Race winner with an amazing time of 5:25:27 that was 30 minutes faster then the next yacht over the finish line. This year we are expecting another great turn out to kick off the season and are looking at the first day of June to bring the lovely warm weather we are expecting this summer.

Once again we will be having a special BBQ and informal meeting at PCYC Friday night before the race start of 8pm. Sperry Top-Sider is sponsoring a post race BBQ along with some "Hottie Totties" from our sponsor Mount Gay to warm you and your crew up from a great race. We encourage racers to spend the night Saturday night and enjoy the start of the LOSHRS Series on Sunday morning with a race from PCYC to Confederation Pier.

Check out the Susan Hood Trophy Race website or yachtscoring.comfor more details on registration and don't miss out on the fun.

Only Two Racing Safety Seminars Left. Don't miss it.

The Lake Ontario Offshore Racing (LOOR) committee has been offering free Safety Seminars that have been well received by attendees. It's not too late to check one out.

This information session is recommended for anyone who wants to learn about some of the recent rule changes to safety on Lake Ontario. The seminar is moderated by Guy Perrin (Member of the Sail Canada Offshore Working Group & Editor of sail-world.com/Canada) and a team of experienced Lake Ontario offshore sailors who will inform you and answer questions on all aspects of sailing safety.

The seminar provides novice and experienced mariners with information and skills required to prepare for sailing offshore, boat preparation, and recommended safety equipment. We hope the variety of locations that one will be close to you and we will see you there.

Etobicoke Yacht Club - April 20 - 12pm

Port Credit Yacht Club - April 24 - 7pm

Crew and Skipper Mixer Night - May 1, 2013

PCYC
2013 May 01
7:00pm

Port Credit Yacht Club invites you an event designed to introduce skippers to people who are interested in crewing on a race boat. We have many people who have already submitted their sailing resumes. Their level of knowledge ranges from experienced to novice. All are willing to learn and eager to become part of a crew.

This year, our format is a bit different from the previous event. We are combining it with a seminar on race rules presented by Brian Chapman at PCYC Speaker's Night.

Before the seminar begins, we will speak to the crew, get any additional resumes then encourage them to participate in the seminar. We will also speak to the people who have arrived for the seminar and give copies of the resumes to all the interested skippers. At the end of the talk, we will invite the two groups to meet.

The timing of this night is such that you have enough time get new crew out for a sail and can decide if they fit in with the crew before any long distance events. This also gives them an opportunity to get to know you and your crew.

If you have any questions, please contact Monica Doedens mndoedens @gmail.com
