10 types of CRAZY baseball soccer parents and how they're RUINING youth baseball soccer
When I let my son choose baseball this year my heart hurt just a little. We'd said no for two years but this year when he asked to join the neighbour's family I wasn't sure if he meant for baseball or for keeps so we kind of had to say yes to keep him in the family.  You see the fact of the matter is we knew he was going to like it and liking it means there is a chance he is going to like it more than soccer and that might hurt a lot.

But signing up for baseball has actually been a blessing in disguise mostly because I don't know a thing about it.  I hear other parents telling their kids all sorts of things that I don't understand.  My favourite is "nice cut" maybe one day I'll even ask them what it means but for right now being oblivious is a wonderful thing as a sports parent and I recommend it for all parents that want to keep their kids playing a sport.

At yesterday's game I could see another very savvy baseball parent struggling with how to help her son who was getting emotional about a potential loss.  She knew she shouldn't say much but she was afraid she might.  So instead we read some of the soccer parent articles including my two favourites (I love to watch you play (LINK), and Sports Parenting in 10 Sentences (LINK) but it made me want to google how to be a good baseball parent incase there was some baseball jargon I could have pulled out to help her.

Guess what?  Baseball and soccer have a lot in common!  This article is a bit harsh if you are a crazy baseball parent but soccer isn't baseball we couldn't possibly have crazy baseball parents in soccer (insert sarcasm here).  And I couldn't possibly fit into one or more of these categories as a soccer parent, could I?!  Hmmm, if I fit in there while desperately only trying to say "I love to watch you play and what do you want for dinner", try and admit to yourself that you must too. Which parent are you? And what can help your kids still be playing when they are 20 years old or 40 years old?  I think the simple answer is analyze less and enjoy more.
Vancouver Island Premier League (VIPL)

A VIPL proposal to improve Tier 2 soccer on the island was recently presented to the LISA Club Presidents.  The presidents voted 9-1 to continue working on the details of VIPL while still allowing the current structure to continue for 2016/2017 - in other words no changes for this year.

VI Wave Update

The first ever Intake Meet and Greet was held on June 5th and was a great success. This gave parents and players the opportunity to meet and talk with veteran players and parents. Quote of the night was "You don't have to be THE BEST just YOUR BEST!"

Good luck to the U16 Boys that have made it to the
Premier Provincial Cup Semi Finals this weekend!

Good Luck to A and B Cup Teams at Provincials!

LISA reminds teams
to support the local organizing committee and the many volunteers while in attendance.  We know you will represent the island well while on and off the field.
