Frequently Asked Questions
Look who's building!!
Cowichan Turf:
The Cowichan Turf is almost ready! With just a few final tasks to be completed they are hoping to have it ready to use by the end of December.  Good luck, we can't wait to see it.

Prospect Lake Club House:
The lights are on!  The building has been fully painted inside and the insulation, flooring and plumbing will be happening in the coming weeks. They hope to have it completely finished and ready to show off in January (fingers crossed for the VISL All-Star Game) and yes there will be washrooms and a concession! This is an extremely exciting time for the club and we look forward to watching games from there.

Dear Mum and Dad,
When you encourage me, I feel confident and proud of myself. When you recognize
things that I do well, I will repeat them. When I repeat them, I need for you to notice. I need to know the specific things that I do well on the soccer field.
I know when I have made a mistake - you don't need to remind me. I feel embarrassed and belittled when you call attention to my mistakes in front of other people. I learn from my mistakes with my coaches and my team - but you are not my coach, so when you criticize me, it makes me feel like a failure as your child.
As my parent, you are my most important role model. Please support me, support my friends and teammates, the referees and even the opposing team through positive,constructive comments. If you have a negative opinion about anyone or anything that happens in my game or practice, please keep it to yourself...even on the way home in the car. The most important thing you can say to me is, "You played great...did you have fun?"

 Its a Mental Game too!
Here are some mental preparation tips to keep a high level of play during big games:
  1. Develop a consistent pregame routine that instills confidence. A pregame routine will help you focus on what you need to do to perform. Taking time during warm-ups to mentally prepare will create a confident, focused, and relaxed mindset.
  2. Focus on your game not your competitors. Particularly in big games, soccer players tend to make comparisons to their competitors and thus psych themselves out. It is important that you reinforce your strengths, focus on your pregame preparation, and avoid making negative comparisons to competition.
  3. Focus on the process, not results. Focusing on results causes you to think too far ahead and sets too many expectations for competition. You will start to force passes instead of slowing down the game and taking control.
  4. Have trust in yourself. Some athletes lose trust and tighten up in the big game. This can cause you to try too hard and focus on mechanics. You want to play freely and trust in your skills.

What is Futsal you ask?
Futsal's essential elements consist of five players a side on basketball-sized courts, indoor and outdoor surfaces without the use of sidewalls, and a no-bounce ball. The sport is a great skill developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pinpoint passing. The no-bounce ball requires players to propel the ball using skill and the proper technique, rather than rely on the bounce of the ball.

LISA's newest Board Member Linda Pakos

Linda has been around soccer in Victoria for approximately 30 years.

She has 2 sons, Matt and Geoff who both played with the Gorge and later Metro with LISA.  She now is the very proud grandmother of 5. Robert 16, Mariah 13, Ashlyn 10, Hayden 7 and the newest Sophia born in July.  All of the grandchildren, have or are presently playing soccer (except Sophia!)

Linda has been a member of many boards and is a huge believer in giving back, so hence her interest in being a member of this board.  Linda believes that volunteers are the unsung heroes of many organizations and their mentorship has spurred her on to do the same!

Fuel for Fun - Healthy Snacks for Active Kids!

Good nutrition is important for everyone, especially young athletes. Offering snacks as a part of sport participation can help:

  • Top-up the fuel needed by muscles - before sports and after;
  • Reduce hunger;
  • Celebrate a game;
  • Model food choices that complement healthy exercise and good sportsmanship

Fuel for Energy

Young athletes should be arriving at the practice or game with enough stored energy to serve them through its duration. Most of this energy comes from nutritious meals and snacks eaten well ahead of time.
