Dispute Resolution

Last month was 'Anti Bullying Day' or 'Pink Shirt Day' in BC. This is a great initiative that deservedly gets much media attention, especially concerning youth and cyber bullying. Most of us are parents or grandparents and probably familiar with the 'WITS' program: Walk away. Ignore. Tell someone. Seek help. At LISA we have been fortunate over the years in not having many instances of bullying involving our youth players. We have not been totally immune, but have managed to assist those involved that have told us about their situation and sought our help. Any parent or player who would like assistance in dealing with any soccer related conflict is encouraged to bring it our attention.

We do unfortunately, often deal with other forms of conflict. In my own life experience I have found that most conflict is based upon or aggravated by how we communicate, what we say, how, when and where we say it. Addressing conflicting views on 'hot' topics or resolving personal conflict is best done face to face. That way each person can let their thoughts and feelings known, and the reasons for those thoughts and feelings, in a respectful manner. Conflict is seldom resolved, and often aggravated, when communication is in the form of social media, blogging of even regular email. Disrespectful, hurtful, or even worse, slanderous remarks, all a form of bullying, do nothing to resolve a conflict or move an organization forward.

In 2013 we made extensive amendments to Chapter 10 'Harassment (and Dispute Resolution)' of the LISA Rules and Regulations. It provides a step-by-step guide to resolving conflict and has proven to be a useful tool in several instances over the past months. Also, LISA invites anyone who would like to discuss any of our administrative or technical functions to contact one of the Board of Directors or the LISA office.

Please, play fair and be respectful.

Peninsula Soccer Association

Peninsula Football Club (PFC) has provided organized soccer for youths aged 5 to 18 for over 40 years.  Saanich Peninsula soccer was loosely organized in 1968 (with four youth teams). In 1978 they became Peninsula Soccer Club or Association. In 1989 they were formally known as Peninsula Soccer Association with BC Government registry but now call themselves Peninsula Football Club (PFC).

The new crest was created in 2014.

Even though they have existed for that long at Blue Heron, the clubhouse was built between 2010 and 2012. They currently do not have an artificial turf facility however this is something they are currently working towards. The club currently enrolls over 620 youth players and almost 100 adult soccer players.

PFC program activities include long-term athletic development (LTAD) for individuals at all stages of life. This concept translates into "active for life", life-long participation in sports and physical activity. FC believes soccer is a very important part of the physical, emotional and social development of children.

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Jackson Cup

The trophy was made in England and shipped to Victoria for the 1914/15 season.

The Cup has led an exciting life even once returning to England so the original Silversmith could perform some repairs but more dramatically, when it decided to find out what life was like on the bottom of the ocean when traveling on a BC Ferry. Luckily, divers were able to retrieve the Cup before it succumbed to the elements.

The Jackson Cup finals are taking place March 29th 2:15 Royal Athletic Park
