Changes for Silver and Bronze teams
|
A LISA committee of club representatives proposed and the LISA board agreed to two changes to make Silver and Bronze more fair, fun and exciting:
CHANGE #1 - SEEDING PHASE
In the past teams have self-declared as silver or bronze teams, often resulting in unbalanced leagues. Instead, teams that are not VIPL or gold will go into a "seeding phase" to determine what level they will be.
The seeding phase for these teams will begin on September 7/8th and will play 5 weeks of games. After the five weeks teams will be split into silver and bronze based on the results and input from technical directors. LISA expects this will result in more balanced leagues and better competition for all.
CHANGE #2 - ADDING A LISA CUP
A new cup (LISA Cup) will be introduced this season to give silver and bronze teams more exciting and meaningful games during the year.
Silver and bronze District Cup will continue and, in addition, all bronze and silver teams will be entered for a chance to win the LISA Cup. The first round will begin after the seeding phase and continue throughout the year. Anyone can win! More details to come in August.

Play: Easy, inexpensive, and incredibly beneficial

Is your child playing enough?
What exactly is "play", and is one type of play better than others?
Why is play so important anyways?

Traveling Out of Province?
|
There are some important things to consider when traveling out of B.C. Make sure you and your team are up to date!
- The BC Soccer Application to Travel out of Province must be completed and the sooner the better, as its associated fee escalates the closer you get to the tournament date. The fee is $75 if BC Soccer receives the form 30 days or more prior to departure date; $100 if received within 29 days prior to departure date; and $150 if received less than 48 hours prior to departure.
- The above form must have the team's players, coaches and managers signed off by LISA prior to submitting to BC Soccer.
IMPORTANT IF GOING STATE-SIDE: the age cutoff date in the U.S. is July 31, as opposed to the December 31 cutoff dates in Canada. This means if you are born on August 1, 2000, you play U13, but if you are born July 31, 2000, you play U14. See their cutoff dates here. |
Attending or hosting a tournament within BC?
|
If your team is attending a tournament within BC, make sure it is a BC Soccer sanctioned event, which are all listed here.

Who's on your team?
|
Alex Pollock
LISA Intern
Alex is LISA's new intern, working in the office during the week and as Game Day Manager on weekends for many of the Vancouver Island Wave home games.
Alex grew up in West Vancouver but moved to Victoria in 2007 to pursue his education at UVic, where he is currently studying Recreation and Health Education.
Some of his hobbies/interests include tennis, surfing, rugby, exercising, reading, and hiking. While he also loves soccer, his lack of skill in this sport leave him destined for the bleachers, and can be nicely summarized by this poor guy's shot.

Offside Positioning
| |
A player is in an offside position if:
he/she is nearer to their opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent Note: it is not an offence to be in an offside position, unless the conditions below are present
An offence occurs when the player in an offside position has: - interfered with play (playing or touching the ball passed or touched by a team-mate) or - interfered with an opponent (preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent's line of vision or movements or making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an opponent or - gained an advantage by being in that position (playing a ball that rebounds to him/her off a goalpost or the crossbar after having been in an offside position or playing a ball that rebounds to him/her off an opponent after having been in an offside position
A player is not in an offside position if:
- he/she is in his/her own half of the field of play or - he/she is level with the second-last opponent or - he/she is level with the last two opponents |
YOU MAKE THE CALL!
| When an indirect free kick is directly kicked into the defending team's goal, what is the correct call?
What about when an indirect free kick is kicked directly into the team's own goal (besides the kicker getting benched)?! |
