Abrisa Technologies is SCHOTT
Borofloat 33 Premier Distributor

Abrisa Technologies provides custom fabrication and optical coating of SCHOTT Borofloat 33; floated borosilicate glass.

A large inventory of Borofloat is maintained at our glass fabrication facility in California for quick turnaround of prototypes and for rapid order fulfillment.

Typical thicknesses stocked are from 0.7mm - 25.4mm with sheet sizes up to
2286 x 1701.8mm (90" x 67").

Key Benefits:
  • Optically Clear - Exceptionally High Transparency
  • Outstanding Thermal Resistance
  • High Chemical Durability
  • Excellent Mechanical Strength

  • Generally used in applications with extreme thermal and/or chemical demands, Borofloat 33 is the glass of choice when conventional float glass such as soda-lime cannot meet the tough chemical and thermal requirements. Manufactured in Germany, Borofloat has exceptional optical quality due to the strict micro-float manufacturing process resulting in a homogeneous material with low metal inclusions providing for excellent surface quality and a high degree of flatness.

    Sight Glass Windows
Sight glass, also known as a sight window or port window, is a visual observation window made from a robust glass substrate, allowing an individual to view or monitor liquid level or flow of a tank, pipeline, or other pressure vessel. The port window is a robust glass disc held between two metal frames which are bolted, clamped, or fused to the frame. The glass itself can be strengthened (heat tempered) for additional durability, and may be coated for enhanced visibility and corrosion resistance

Abrisa Technologies' preferred glass material for sight glass windows is SCHOTT Borofloat 33, an excellent choice as it can withst
and operating conditions up to 500F as well as provide excellent corrosion, impact, and abrasion resistance.

When selecting a sight glass substrate the following characteristics of the glass should be considered:
    • Thermal Shock
    • Corrosion
    • Abrasion
    • Pressure
    • Impact

    An Interview with Lisa Tsufura
    Optical Coatings Product Manager
    Tough Durable Coatings for
    Medical & Dental Applications
Abrisa Technologies designs and manufactures custom anti-reflective, mirror, and filter coatings for various uses in both medical and dental environments where demanding optical performance and harsh sterilization processes are often employed to prevent instrument contamination.

According to Lisa, "Autoclaving, high heat, high moisture, agitation, and harsh chemicals are often used to sterilize medical and dental instruments in an effort to rid them of bacteria and other contaminants. Coated optics used in these instruments, if not specifically designed for exposure to these abusive cleaning environments, often craze, delaminate, or experience rapid deterioration in their optical performance." Additionally, "Thermal stress, material selection and deposition processes employed are critical design considerations for optics intended for such hostile environmental conditions, to ensure long term reliability and instrument up-time, high use cycles and minimmized cost of ownership."

Abrisa Technologies has years of experience providing robust optics for medical and dental applications. Our economical and high performance custom coating solutions are engineered to survive tough assembly, usage and cleaning environments.
