It's hard to believe that Semana Santa is less than three weeks away. For some reason, the majority of expats seem to pack their bags, close up their homes and head north instead of enjoying the festivities and influx of exuberant vacationers, bands and beach vendors this Mexican holiday brings.
Daylight Savings Clock
If you are heading north, keep in mind that the US, Canada and the ten northern border municipalities in Mexico will turn their clocks ahead one hour on Sunday, March 10 at 2am for Daylight Saving Time. The rest of Mexico will spring ahead on Sunday, April 7.

During the Gran Noche Mexicana in La Peņita last week, J. Jesús Carranza Diaz, a local writer and native of Los Ayala, presented his book "Playa Los Ayala: Memorias de mi Pueblo." The book is filled with history, photos, myths, legends, recipes and more, and we have 20 copies available for sale. See details below.

Guayabitos resident Jeanette Johnstone is an avid blogger. Last week, she visited the new Hilltop Refugio in La Peņita with some friends and George Leavitt, founder of Jaltemba Equine Education Project (J.E.E.P.). You can read her story entitled "Starving Horses" which includes several photos showing the rescued horses' slowly improving health and the progress of the new stables being built on the refuge site.

To find out what else is happening, read through the information below and take a peek at our online Community Calendar.

To help plan your upcoming trip or your day in the bay, don't forget to check the current weather conditions on the  Official Jaltemba Bay Weather Page

The next issue of the Jaltemba Bay Life Newsletter will arrive in your Inbox on Wednesday, March 20th, just in time for your morning coffee. In the meantime, keep an eye on our blog as we post information, stories and photos there on a regular basis.

Saludos!

What do you do when it's cloudy in paradise? You go for a hike in the back country where you have never been before. Four amigos headed up the back roads behind La Peņita looking for the road to La Rosa. We didn't really know where we were going and didn't care if we got there or not.  Read More

Los Ayala Legends and Folklore
by Christina Stobbs
Playa Los Ayala Book The Goblins of The Old Fig Tree:

It has always been commented that where a fig tree is born, there is water, and where there is water, there is life, but... what kind of life? It is said that small goblins exist, good or bad, but they exist and the small town of Los Ayala could not be without a fig tree when it is surrounded by so much water, the sea, the estuary, the underground rivers and all the springs.  Read More

The legends and folklore of Los Ayala were translated from the book "Playa Los Ayala: Memorias de mi Pueblo" written by J. Jesús Carranza Diaz. Tosia Playa Naranjo
One of the local beaches we love spending time on is Playa Naranjo, located about 6 kilometers northwards, as the crow flies, up the coast from La Peņita. But, to reach it by vehicle one must access it via Lima de Abajo, a small village that is a quick 5-8 minute drive north of La Colonia via Highway 200.  Read More
