October 2012
Greetings!

 President's Message

In the spirit of our wonderful organization... shalom, aloha, hola, greetings, ciao, ellohay, blessings, hello, Kóyo, xin chào!  I look forward to working with each of you to lead our Chapter into 2013.

On October 6th, the Board met to discuss our direction and lay out steps for not only tomorrow but future years.  We will do this by identifying tangible goals and developing performance measures to ensure we meet our objectives.

Goals -

  • Provide quality training/education
  • Knowledgeable and networking membership
  • Promote profession

Performance Measures

  • Increase monthly meeting attendance - Target 37 people

  • Increase readership -Constant Contact - Target 75%

  • Increase applications for committees - Target: 15 applications
At our retreat, we asked the question...what will clerks say about NTMCA in five years?  Then we turned the question inward; what do the officers want people to say about NTMCA in five years?   This generated discussion which allowed us to drill down deeper to identify how the Board will know:
  1. when clerks are engaged;
  2. how to challenge clerks;
  3. how to meet the needs of our clerks; and
  4. meet the expectations of our city officials (city managers and elected officials) and provide a return on investment.

Your Board has made the commitment to keep you engaged in our Chapter.  I view the Board similar to the governing body and the membership as the constituents.  We are here to promote our Chapter, foster growth, and provide you with the tools that you need to excel in your municipality.  As constituents you provide feedback and take an active role in your Chapter to create the much-needed synergy to distinguish NTMCA as a role model for other chapters.

Building on synergy...the meeting schedule for fiscal year 2013 is set and guest speakers will continue with the Empowerment Series.  We are forever balancing-spiritual, emotional, mental and physical aspects in our professional and personal worlds. The topics are designed to develop our skills, improve our strengths and reduce our weaknesses.

The Chapter needs your participation, whether it is serving on a committee, being a host city for our monthly meetings, or simply providing feedback.  I am always mindful that a successful Chapter is not the labor of a few, but the collective work of many.  Show me your spirit...review the meeting schedule and become a host city and/or assist our chapter by serving on a committee:

  • Alyce Deering Scholarship
  • Audit
  • Holiday Celebration (2013)
  • Legislative
  • Membership/communications
  • Municipal clerk of the year
  • Nominating
  • Professional seminar
  • Technology
have the pleasure of hosting our first meeting for fiscal year 2013.  We will be meeting in the Community Room located in the Department of Public Safety Headquarters Building, which is located at 600 State Street (off Carroll).  Please note that this building is separate and located northeast of Town Hall and Hilton Southlake.  Ron Hollifield, Founder and CEO of Strategic Government Resources will be our guest speaker.  Mr. Hollifield's topic, "Don't take everything so personal...it is not always about you", will provide practical tips to help you keep others' negativity in context and prevent it from becoming personal or dragging you down.

Interested in being a host city?

Are you interested in being a host city for a business luncheon meeting?

What is involved with being a host city?

  • provide location for approximately 30 - 35 people
  • arrange a caterer and coordinate with Chapter Secretary to provide accurate count and Chapter Treasurer to keep within budget

The last few years we have seen an increase in our meeting attendance.  We believe that rotating meeting sites has made it easier for cities/towns to attend.  We would love to come to your city/town to network and conduct our business meeting.

Please contact NTMCA President Alicia Richardson at arichardson@ci.southlake.tx.us if you are interested in being a host city.
