Dear Colleagues,

On May 16th our sister organization, the European HIV/AIDS Funders Group (EFG), announced they would be merging operations with us to streamline efforts and increase networking among US and EU funders, effective immediately.

As an emerging global leader in AIDS philanthropy, FCAA will expand its coverage and programming to include both U.S. and E.U.-based members.  Importantly, FCAA's mission will remain the same: to mobilize the leadership, ideas, and resources of funders to eradicate the HIV/AIDS pandemic - domestically and internationally -  and to address its social and economic dimensions.

This merger is an outgrowth of more than a decade-long collaboration between EFG and FCAA, including, most notably, our respective resource tracking efforts, and the now annual funder's reception at the International AIDS Conference. Importantly, this merger will create a renewed opportunity for partnership and sharing between U.S. and E.U. funders. Moving forward, there will be an increased effort to include the perspectives of E.U.-based funders within FCAA programming.  Over the next few months you will also begin to see updates to www.fcaaids.org as we accommodate our new members.

2012 RT COVER We recommend you revisit last year's resource tracking publication - U.S. and European Philanthropic Support to Address HIV/AIDS in 2011 - for a snapshot of the European response. In 2011 HIV/AIDS-related disbursements from 38 E.U.-based philanthropies totaled $170 million.

For our newest colleagues, please stay tuned for more emails from FCAA that will outline upcoming programming opportunities. Consider sharing a best practice or grantee story in FCAA's blog.  Please let us know what we can do to keep you better informed and connected.  Send questions and or ideas to FCAA Program & Communications Director Sarah Hamilton at sarah@fcaaids.org.

Please join us in welcoming our new E.U. colleagues to the FCAA community!

Warmest Regards,

Your new European colleagues will be terrific partners. Here are a few examples of the innovation they funded in 2011:

  • Fondation Total supported an HIV prevention project for truck drivers at high risk for HIV infection. The project reached over 80,000 truck drivers in Morocco, Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
  • AIDS Fonds supported local organizations in Eastern Europe and Asia that advocate for PLWHA, including a campaign to fight for the relaxation of import duties on generic antiretrovirals in Viet Nam.
  • Fondation de France supported a project in the Democratic Republic of Congo ina region heavily affected by ethnic conflict and sexual violence.  The project helps women that have been victims of rape receive medical and psychological care, HIV testing and treatment and other services.
  • Elton John AIDS Foundation UK is supporting Kheth'Impilo, a South African NGO that supports ARV treatment for over 100,000 patients within government health clinics to train pharmacist assistants in selected high need rural clinics.
Read more examples of innovation as profiled in last year's resource tracking report.

Expanding Resource Tracking:

In partnership with UNAIDS, FCAA will be expanding our regular resource tracking efforts to identify and analyze private funding organizations located outside of the U.S. and Western and Central Europe.

Please share any contact information or tips on how to engage any of your global funding colleagues or partners. Send any ideas or information to Erika@fcaaids.orgThank you in advance!
