Five Years of Trash: Thanks Julie & Doug!

The Kluge's were the inspiration behind Trash Monday's five years ago, and now it's time to celebrate!

Next Monday marks the 5th anniversary of Trash Monday, and we will award 5 gift certificates during the 7pm award ceremonies: one for every year of trash!

Wondering how much trash has been picked up in 5 years?

Since inception, 4,223 man & woman hours have went toward picking up trash downtown, which equates to roughly 2,112 bags of trash, if not more!

Pretty impressive, right? A big thanks to Julie and Doug for making this happen, and for all of the countless volunteers who have taken time out of their busy lives every Monday to help beautify downtown.

Trash Monday has offered us many great finds. Below is most likely the "Best In Trash Show"!

Work up an unforgettable Thanksgiving appetite with a European-style 5K around Reid Park on Thanksgiving morning. Registration is now open.

Girls On The Run is looking for coaches. To become a Girls on the Run coach go to http://gotrtucson.org
and click on the "Volunteers" tab or

Check Out St. Mary's Hospital Farmer's Market Next Tuesday, November 18!

Spend the holidays with friends and family and not your oven by letting the chefs at Maynards Kitchen and the Cup Cafe do the cooking as each are offering special menus this Thanksgiving.

Use the time you saved to admire the leaves and the cooler weather in Downtown Tucson while enjoying phenomenal meals by award-winning restaurants.  Indoors or outdoors on the scenic patios (they have heaters of course), the East End will make this holiday season unforgettable.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of AZ...

proud sponsor of MMM!!!

Each month, our newsletter features a health & wellness article from our sponsor BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona.

Golden Years Can Be Just That,
If Good Health Is a Priority
By Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association

Have you heard the saying, "50 is the new 30?" That may not be such an outrageous observation if you're someone who has paid close attention to improving your health and wellness through the years.

For seniors-and the term doesn't necessarily mean 65 or older anymore-living long and well can be as simple as taking the proactive steps necessary to keep the golden years just that: as precious as gold.

As you age, there are health issues that become more prevalent. These may include memory and mental health issues, bone and joint problems, and vision and hearing impairment.* While some of these health issues appear overwhelming on the surface, if addressed early and with appropriate treatment and action, the aging process can be a smooth one.

Experts suggest discussing any health issues related to aging with your doctor or healthcare provider, but general tips include:*

Memory: stay mentally and socially active to help keep your mental state sharp. Physical exercise and a healthy diet also help maintain good mental faculties.

Bones and joints: add calcium and vitamin D to your diet, and build bone density through activities such as walking and strength training.

Vision/hearing: schedule regular vision and hearing exams and follow your doctor's advice based on exam results.

Overall wellness: include physical activity in your daily routine; drink water and other fluids; and eat a healthy diet, including plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Also, pay attention to meal portions. As you age, you may not need to eat as much as you used to.

Remember, it's never too late to make healthier lifestyle choices!
