Upcoming Events for April & May
We hope you are able to join us for one or all of the following events:

April 9th - LINK leaders are invited to attend the Jaycee's Next Step Series "Financial Literacy" where Ryan Anderson will present on top financial issues facing young professionals. This event will take place at Java Joes on 4th Street in Downtown Des Moines at 6pm. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge to attend.

 

April 10th - Happy Hour - Join LINK and E+S Chamber at Confluence Brewing Company for Happy Hour from 4:30pm - 6:30pm! Located at 1235 Thomas Beck Rd, Suite A. Des Moines.

 

May 1st - Taste of the South Side, a community event that captures the culinary greatness of east and south Des Moines. The event includes live music, food and beverage samples from local restaurant owners. The event will be held at Jasper Winery, 2400 George Flagg Pkwy in Des Moines from 4:30 - 8:00pm. Tickets can be purchased for $20 at dsmeastsouthchamber.org or $25 at the door.

 

May 3rd - Get involved and volunteer for Rebuilding Together, an organization devoted to the repair and rehabilitation of the homes of low-income, veterans, elderly or disabled homeowners or families with dependent children. We are forming a LINK team to work on a house, so please contact Abbey Gilroy to join: [email protected].

 

May 14th - Mark your calendars for the next great presentation of the Next Step Series by Efrem Jackson.  This event will take place at Java Joes on 4th Street in Downtown Des Moines at 6pm. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge to attend.

 

Emerging Leader Spotlight

Over the next few months, we would like to introduce you to our tri-chairs. This month, get to know Abbey Gilroy...

 

Abbey is currently the Executive Director for Neighborhood Development Corporation, a non-profit real estate development company that focuses their redevelopment efforts in transitional and blighted neighborhoods within Des Moines. The organization has completed projects on 6th Ave, East Grand, and most recently, the south side of Des Moines. Abbey grew up in Des Moines and went on to graduate from Iowa State University. Early in her career, Abbey managed construction projects for an architectural firm, but later moved into the developer role where she completed projects on behalf of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and Kum & Go. Abbey is a great resource to any young professionals looking to enter the real estate development field.
