Celebrating Progress
Progress means advancing business, education and volunteerism to members of East and South Des Moines. These important topics were celebrated at the annual fall showcase event, Celebration of Progress, held September 26 at the Des Moines Fire Department Training and Logistics Facility.
The celebration was open to the public with proceeds benefiting the Chamber's scholarship program. The event consisted of networking, music, food, and a program awarding scholarships to area schools and recognizing Linda Bisignano as Volunteer of the Year.
Linda, owner of the local fixture, Chuck's Italian-American Restaurant in Des Moines' Highland Park, is a generous contributor to the Des Moines area, including feeding Thanksgiving dinner to about 3,500 of the city's poor, hungry, elderly and homebound.
The celebration was also an opportunity to invest in the future of local schools. The Chamber presented $1,000 scholarships to East High, North High and Grand View University whose representatives thanked the east and south communities for their support and efforts to enrich area schools.
