East Side Beautification Projects
In recent years, the East Des Moines Chamber of Commerce has held an Annual Celebration of Progress to raise scholarship funds. A few years back there were extra funds raised that were put away to be used specifically on an East Side Beautification project. The EDM Chamber and the Greater East Side Development (GESD) have now partnered to utilize those funds.
In conjunction with Earth Day 2013, both organizations are contributing up to $500 towards two Des Moines public school projects.
Carver Elementary School, 705 E. University, has rain gardens that need upkeep and flowers. We are working with them to provide water flowers and wild flower seeds. An event will be held on April 22nd to facilitate this project.
We are also awaiting a decision by Stowe Elementary School, 2900 East 42nd St, on the contribution we will make toward their new teaching vegetable garden.
