Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation Announces
New Director of Licensing
Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation Mark Kaufman is pleased to announce the hiring of Juan Sempertegui as the Director of Licensing. Mr. Sempertegui will oversee licensing of non-depository financial institutions and individuals in industries ranging from mortgage lenders, brokers, and originators to check cashers and money transmitters. He brings an excellent skill set and diverse experience which will help the Division of Financial Regulation in its effort to serve current licensees and new applicants in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
Mr. Sempertegui has 14 years of combined experience in both the legal and financial fields. His legal experience includes five years litigating numerous consumer protection cases and serving as a law clerk for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Before practicing law, Mr. Sempertegui worked for nine years in the fields of accounting and finance for various entities including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Non-Commissioned Officer. Mr. Sempertegui holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland, an MBA from Johns Hopkins University, and a JD from American University's Washington College of Law.
