Dear Tennessee Senior Olympics Volunteers,
|
|
Thank you so much for volunteering for the 2016 Tennessee Senior Olympics. We have over 1,900 senior athletes registered. With this many athletes, the event will be challenging and exciting. Your role is vital. Please read through this email as it should answer all of your questions.
- To view your shifts, please log onto the www.hon.org website and look at your Upcoming Opportunities. It should default to that page when you log-on, if not you can click Overview (in the blue box on the left) to get to their service page.
- Please take time to view the 2016 TSO Rule Manual for the events you have signed up for. The athletes train hard for these events and it will be helpful for you to be familiar with the specific rules that apply to this age group.
- Your T-shirt and name tag many be picked up at Athlete Check-in at BGA. If you have an event that starts before Check-In opens or you are at another venue site, please try and pick up your volunteer t-shirt and name tag the day before your assignments begin. Please see the Events Schedule for Check-In hours and times. If this is not possible, don't worry about it.
- We ask that you arrive early or on time for your volunteer assignments so that we can remain on schedule. We simply cannot run this event without you. If for some reason you cannot volunteer for your shift(s), please remove yourself by logging into your account with the www.hon.org website so that shift(s) can become available for another volunteer.
|
| |
| We still need volunteers for several shifts. If you can sign up for another shift or know of someone who is interested, please forward this email to them. Click here for Volunteer Online Registration. |

Helpful Tips and Important Information
Please wear your volunteer T-shirt and nametag when you work. You may pick up these items at the Athlete Check-In desk in the BGA Cherry Sports Center lobby prior to the day(s) you are scheduled to work. See the link above for Check-In hours and times.
- Please be on time. We cannot start the sports competition until all volunteers are in place. Remember that some shifts may end early and you will need to be sure you have transportation in place in case this happens.
- Upon arrival, check-in with the Sports Chair in charge of the competition. He/she will give you your exact assignment (scoring, timing, etc). Sports Chairs should be wearing staff shirts with the TN Senior Olympics logo or other official attire.
- We will provide food to volunteers working two (2) back to back shifts that run through lunch or dinner or dinner time or a shift such as 10am-2pm that runs through meal time.
- For all of you assigned to sports events, please take the time to read the rules for your sport. Your Sports Chair will also review this with you.
- Please take the event seriously. Most senior athletes train year round for this so please pay attention when scoring or timing, etc. You will be absolutely amazed at their performances.
- Please be sure and turn cell phones OFF during competition. No texting please.
- Most importantly, smile and have fun. The senior athletes always comment on the friendliness and helpfulness of the volunteers.
- You may experience periods of downtime depending on what event you are volunteering for. This is to be expected. It doesn't mean that we do not need you.
- Some of our indoor venues are quite chilly, therefore you might want to bring a jacket.
- If you are working outdoors this weekend the forecast looks hot. Be sure and wear sunscreen, hat, comfortable shoes and clothing. We will provide water but it wouldn't hurt to bring an extra water bottle with you.
