Dear Chattanooga Athletes,
We need to delay this October's district games.
As you are aware, late last fall Alexian Brothers made the decision to discontinue providing a coordinator for the event. We are extremely appreciative to this organization for their many years of service.
In the meantime, 30 year co-partner and staunch supporter Chattanooga Parks and Recreation has been striving to add this position to their organization. As with many governmental units this takes time. We have learned that this addition is just not going to be possible this fall. There are still approvals and legal issues to address with the City.
Please bear with us as we make it through this transition.
The new plan is to hold the majority of your events in February 2015. The outdoor sports of horseshoes and track and field will be scheduled for warmer weather. Softball and golf will not be held. Teams and golfers may register directly for the state finals.
As far as registering for the June 2015 state finals we plan to be as flexible as possible. As deadlines are in March and April, those athletes participating in track and horseshoes will need to go ahead and register before participating in the Chattanooga district. If athletes are unable to participate in track and horseshoes later, notifying the state will be necessary as district participation is required. We will do our best to mail state entry forms to those participating in the Chattanooga district once your deadline has passed and names are entered and turned into us.
You can help us by forwarding or passing this information on to others. The best way to keep abreast of information is to make sure athletes are signed up for our e-mail notices. This can be done on our homepage at www.tnseniorolympics.com. Please also remember that you may participate in any district or more than one.
Please address questions to info@tnseniorolympics.com or 615-200-8760. You may also contact Kelly Price at price_k@chattanooga.gov . We appreciate Kelly's support as she does her best to handle questions and help in planning as we wait on the new position.
Thank you for your patience and support. The Chattanooga district has always been one of our best and we plan to continue that tradition.
