TENNESSEE SENIOR OLYMPICS

December 2012

Exciting changes...
As mentioned in last summer's state finals news, the Tennessee Senior Olympics will be undergoing an exciting change in 2013.  Read on for more information.

SAVE THE DATE 2013
State Finals

Our annual state finals will move to June 21-27, 2013 in Williamson County.  The move is necessary as Battle Ground Academy can only be secured during the high school athletic dead period for the foreseeable future.

Over the past twenty years, the state finals has doubled in size to approximately 2,000 athletes.  To properly plan for such a large event it is necessary to move the registration deadline to April.  As a result, our board of directors is revamping our system.

DISTRICT COMPETITION AND QUALIFYING INFORMATION

The district competitions will be moved to the fall of each year.  Each fall, athletes will have the opportunity to qualify at one of our ten district events for the next summer's state finals.  For example, in the fall of 2013 athletes will qualify for the 2014 state finals.

For the 2013 state finals ONLY, athletes will not be required to qualify.  Registration will be open at the state finals for all sports.

We are excited about the opportunities that a new system will allow.  Our mission is to promote healthy lifestyles for seniors through sports and fitness.  With the ability to spread out events, it offers more of a year round approach.  In the spring, many districts plan to offer clinics or mini-tournaments to prepare athletes for the state finals.

2013 National Horizontal
NATIONALS 2013

After receiving national registration materials in late October,  our staff has been working hard to prepare and submit results from last summer's state finals to Nationals.

These have all been uploaded into the national system.  Nationals recently sent an e-mail notifying athletes about registration.  They mistakenly forgot to add Tennessee to the list of eligible states.

All qualified Tennessee athletes are able to register for next summer's National Senior Games in Cleveland by clicking
