We're pleased to introduce you to a new resource for our community - The LGBT Legal Community Calendar, which we hope will become a place for attorneys and law students to find legal and legal oriented/related events of particular interest to the LGBT community. You can skip right to the calendar if you like, but we've got some information below on what this calendar is all about.

The calendar's backstory

Over the years, we've been approached by members and organizations alike to share events with our networks. Sharing those events via e-mail all the time is just not efficient (and not necessarily what everyone wants in their inbox).

And given that part of our mission is to foster the cohesiveness of the LGBT legal community, we've always wanted to help consolidate these events somewhere online for all community members.

After we launched the new  le-gal.org, we pegged the creation of this calendar as one of our priorities for future enhancements.

The calendar is now live and with the help of you and other community members and organizations it will be filled with relevant events, including our own.

What kinds of events exactly will be featured?

As a bar association of the LGBT legal community, featuring events with an LGBT and legal focus will of course be our main priority.

With that said, we know you're interested in lots of events and programs that may be of special interest to lawyers even if not primarily geared towards the LGBT community or exclusively "legal" in focus. So we'll feature some of those events as well in our "General Interest Events" section. We say some because we don't want this calendar to be a listing of every event in the NYC-area that might possibly interest lawyers (and we confess that we wouldn't even be able to keep up with a calendar that tried to do that).

Also, as you would probably guess, we'll be posting our own events to the calendar as well. We especially hope to see you at those!

Are there certain events that you will not feature on the calendar?

This one's a tough question in that making hard and fast rules (especially ones that will survive the scrutiny of the legal community) is not really possible. We can tell you that we do not want to duplicate the efforts of existing community calendars.

So, for example, if you're looking to post a fundraising event for an LGBT organization or cause, we encourage you to use the great fundraising event calendar hosted by The Center.

We also will not typically post events that do not have a website link associated with them where visitors can go for more information and to rsvp.

Events that we usually will want to feature are CLE programs; lectures, educational events and free networking or similar events of interest to the LGBT legal community.

Take a look at our event submission guidelines for additional examples. Again, they're guidelines and we'll be using our best judgment as to what events to feature.

Where can I find more information? How do I suggest events for posting?

Additional information, including how to submit postings for the calendar, is available at the community calendar homepage. Any calendar questions should be directed exclusively to calendar@le-gal.org.
