Statement on Anti-Gay Hate Violence

March & Rally Tonight

Dear LeGaL Members & Friends,

We are sure you have all heard about the latest chapter in a wave of senseless hate violence inflicted against members of our community solely because of our sexual orientation/gender identity or perceived orientation/identity. One act of violence is one too many but the multiple acts of hate violence occurring over the past two weeks in New York City is especially disturbing.

We join with other community members, elected officials and concerned citizens and allies in denouncing the senseless murder of Mark Carson this past Friday night in Greenwich Village. We mourn his loss and add our Association's voice to the call for this madness to end.

Tonight a march will be held beginning at the LGBT Community Center, 208 West 13th Street, Manhattan, at 5:30 p.m. and continuing onto West 8th Street and 6th Avenue.  A rally and a speak out will immediately follow the march, where those gathered will demand community safety and further mourn the death of Mark Carson. We encourage those that can attend to do so.

In the days ahead, we will also be reaching out to our community partners to offer our assistance in helping to prevent future violence.

Thank you,

Karl C. Riehl
President

Brad M. Snyder
Executive Director
