Employment Law and Criminal Law CLE:
Common Issues Facing the LGBTQ Community
In connection with the LGBTQ Brooklyn Legal Assistance Project and LeGaL's new legal clinic in Brooklyn, please join LeGaL for a complimentary CLE program focusing on two of the high priority legal issues encountered by visitors to our walk-in clinics.
This CLE program will address common issues encountered in the areas of Employment and Criminal Law. The training will provide an overview of commonly presented questions from our LGBTQ clients and will equip attorneys with a basic background in these areas and our clinic volunteers with the background to provide general legal guidance and referrals.
Some of the topics from Criminal Law will include:
* What is a summons/desk appearance ticket?
* What to expect at your first court appearance?
* Warrants
* Common resolutions of criminal cases
* Arraignment Basics * Concerns for non-citizens
Some of the topics from Employment Law will include: * Laws protecting against sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace * Case intake and evaluation * Demand letters * Litigating a sexual orientation discrimination claim
Attorneys interested in volunteering at the Brooklyn clinic are strongly encouraged to attend. But all are welcome at the program.
