Passion. Doing what you love. Creating and preparing for the future. In the coaching process, coaches guide others to identify meaning and do what excites the soul. We help others use innate talents and gifts, but then also challenge clients to move a bit into the unknown, go where they may not have gone before, and to remember that life begins outside the comfort zone.

I can honestly say my soul was stirred during an ICF Houston Coaches meeting this last week. The speaker, Pam Scheid, a communications and marketing futurist, shared 10 tips to think like a futurist. Pam proposed that one of the outcomes of thinking like a futurist is increasing your ability to be flexible which enhances your ability to create your preferred future. 

We all have futures. Many of us help others create futures by setting goals, identifying obstacles, perhaps assessing performance, and determining solutions. But a component of that process includes being flexible, nimble, resourceful and resilient to change.

Do I see the cup half full or half empty?

Is my first blush at an issue a problem or an opportunity?

Do I prefer the safety of stagnant waters, or do I find wonder and excitement in where the white water might lead me?
