Greetings!
" A smooth sea never made a skilled mariner."
-English Proverb
Happy May!
Scott Peck's timeless book, The Road Less Travelled, starts out with the opening sentence, "Life is difficult." Over the 25 years since the book was first published, there have been many ideologies and theories about talent, skill mastery and success. Some authors pose to focus on strengths, others on constraints, while others suggest years of conscientious, applied practice creates mastery of anything.
Regardless of the theory you most appreciate, life is and will be difficult. Most experts, academics and thought leaders agree though that learning occurs through error, conscience effort and repetition. One can certainly practice on a "smooth sea" and thus be prepared for calm waters. How are you preparing for rougher seas?
Just for Today, ask yourself:
What rough seas have challenged me yet I achieved success?
What rough seas have challenged me, pushed me back but made me stronger?
What is one rough sea I can consciously approach today with courage?
Best wishes as you learn to navigate through your personal or professional rough seas!
