Dear Parents,
Emotional pain is real and can be complicated. No two people exhibit emotional pain in the same way and the causes of such pain can be complex. I visited secondary classrooms the last two weeks of school to talk to students about physical and emotional well-being, the warning signs of suicidal behavior, and how to be a "positive friend", including talking to an adult (preferably a trusted adult, but if none are around, an adult who can help or 911 in emergencies) when a friend is engaging in any of the warning sign behaviors or actively injuring themselves.
Mr. Berg also discussed suicide and warning behaviors in seventh grade health class and High School health class this past semester.
It is important for everyone to know the warning signs of suicidal behavior and to understand self-injury behavior whether it be for your own children, the friends of your children, or the adults that surround you and your family. You may never need to use the information attached; but, to be knowledgeable and prepared can perhaps help someone someday.
