VCS BOARD ELECTIONS:  
 
This year we have two board members up for re-election. These board members will be running again for their positions as incumbents. Elections, voting procedures, and candidates will be announced the end of May via the e-mail newsletter and the website. Please direct all questions to Mrs. OldenKamp at wendyroldenkamp@msn.com.  Anyone interested in running for a position on the Vision Charter School Board must fill out the VCS Board Member Application available in the VCS office and return it to the school no later than Monday, May 23, 2016.

SCIENCE EXPO NIGHT:
Come check out the exciting scientific learning happening in Kindergarten through twelfth grade classrooms in the area of Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Art, and Math!!!!
 
Drop in to the Science Expo any time between 3:30-7 p.m. at Vision Charter School. Stop by the library to allow your children to drive robots and build with legos.  In the gym students from Imagine Tomorrow and the music department will be selling food and drinks. On the other half of the gym Mrs. Perkins will be running a scholastic book fair! Middle school students will be displaying projects in rooms 108 and 107. Move through all of the Kindergarten-sixth grade classrooms to see their science fair projects in addition to other displays.
 
The 7-12th grade art classes will be displaying completed projects in the hallway and in room 104. Imagine Tomorrow students will have their inventions and presentations on display in the secondary building.
 
DISTINGUISHED SCIENCE PANEL FOR VISION CHARTER'S SCIENCE NIGHT:
 
Scott Lowe- Scott is a Professor of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics in the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University. Dr. Lowe received his PhD in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), his Master's Degree in Economics from Oregon State University, a Master's Degree in Environmental Science and Management from UCSB, and undergraduate degrees in Economics and Environmental Studies from UCSB.  Dr. Lowe currently directs the Environmental Studies Program, coordinates the Sustainability Minor, and is the Vice President of the Faculty Senate. Dr. Lowe's primary research interests relate to the influence of regulations on environmental and socioeconomic conditions. His research focal areas include air and water quality, urban economics, and on water use in the arid western United States. Scott is also the faculty liaison for the BSU Concurrent Enrollment program for participating area high school environmental studies classes (including Vision Charter School).
 
Jennifer Riebe- Jennifer received a BS in Horticulture (fruit and vegetable production) and an MS in Entomology from the University of WI in the mid-80's.  Over the years, she has worked for both universities and private industry conducting research on fruit and potato insect management.  She is currently self-employed as an independent crop and pest control consultant, working with potato and fruit growers to refine management inputs and minimize pesticides. In addition, she conducts research for a local company developing a biochemical to improve shelf life of raspberries.
 
Nathan Hall- Nathan in a marine biologist at the Aquarium of Boise, where he works on curriculum, educational courses, programs for the Aquarium.  He also is involved in outreach and marketing programs.  He is originally from Los Angeles, California where he worked as an intern at the Aquarium of the Pacific and Pacific Marine Mammal Center.  He has an Associate's degree from Mount San Antonio College, Biology (marine emphasis) and Zoology degree from Humboldt State University, and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Northwest Nazarene University.  He also holds an Idaho Education Credential in Secondary Education for Biological Science & Natural Science.  He loves exploring and photographing the natural world.
 
Mel Koob- Mel has taught at the college level for over 30 years.  College courses taught include, Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Human Biology, Introductory Biology, Concepts of Biology I and II, Environmental Conservation, Ecology, and Environmental and Natural Resource Economics.  She has been teaching at Boise State University since 1988, teaching primarily Human Anatomy and Physiology (B-227/228) and Human Biology (B-107). Mel has coordinated and overseen the Human Anatomy and Physiology labs at BSU for over 10 years; in some semesters this has included up to 28 different lab sections and up to 14 different lab instructors.  Mel is also the faculty liaison for the BSU Concurrent Enrollment program (since 2007) for participating area high school anatomy and physiology classes (including Vision Charter School).
 
The following presentations were selected from five different science classes across several grade bands that Mr. George teaches. Many of the presentations evaluated during class were excellent, but these projects were chosen based on their diversity, thoroughness, and scientific process followed when compared to projects of similar content. In addition to the presentations given in Mr. George's room (room 105), you can visit Mr. Leavell's room to see the Middle School Science Presentations, you can also take a look at the Imagine Tomorrow presentations with Mrs. Mitchell's students in the south wing of the building, K-6 projects in the portables, and Robotics projects in the tech room.
 
 
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF BROUGHT TO YOU BY VCS MUSICAL  THEATER
After learning that one of the lead actors in the Musical Theatre's production of Fiddler on the Roof will be graduating with an associate's degree from CWI on May 7 in the evening, the cast has decided to adjust the performance times of the musical on that day.  The performances will now be at 11:00 and 3:00.  Snack items will be available for purchase at intermission.  The Friday evening performance at 7:00 p.m. will be unchanged.  Cost is $2 per person with a maximum of $10 for a family.  Please plan on coming and supporting the cast!
 

MIDDLE  SCHOOL DRAMA:
Mark your calendars for May 13th as the Middle School Drama Club presents, "Most Amazing Gift."  Written by grandparent Peter Sundin, this play takes us to Scandinavia and three noble knights trying to find the best gift to win the princess. Our one performance at5:30 is free to the public and a cookie celebration afterwards!
SECONDARY TALENT SHOW:
The secondary talent show will occur during school on May 26.  Auditions will be Monday, May 23 after school in the gym.  Students must have their acts completely prepared as they would intend to perform for the show.  Lyrics of songs being sung or played in the background must be printed.  Acts need to be no longer than three and a half minutes in length.  Keep your eyes open for further information the month of May.
CARNIVAL:
The PFA is excited to bring you the VISION CHARTER SCHOOL CARNIVAL from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016! The PFA has arranged to have carnival rides, a LIVE AUCTION, raffles, tons of game booths, a DJ, lots of food, a bounce house, dunk tanks, and so much more!

LEARNSTORM:
Ian Capell was invited to the Learnstorm 2016 Party on May 14th!!  He is the only one from Vision Charter School that earned this special invitation.  He mastered 566 topics!!!!  Way to go Ian!!!
TITLE 1 AFTER SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS: 
After school Title 1 will be ending the week of May 5th.  We will be having a special celebration with each group after school starting onMay 2nd through May 5th to reward these kids for all of their hard work!!

2016 GRADUATION:
Each graduating senior will receive 18 tickets to share with family and friends to attend the graduation ceremony on May 27, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Nampa Civic Center. Entry to graduation will require a ticket this year due to the large size of the graduating class and limited seating.  Students who are not in need of all 18 of their tickets are able to share their tickets with other graduates who may need more than their pre-allotted amount. In the event that you are a parent of a VCS graduate and you are still seeking additional tickets, please contact Mrs. Sheree Boothby at shereeboothby@visioncsd.org to put your name on a list to receive additional tickets that may become available. Thank you for your understanding.  
Graduates must attend mandatory practice at 3:00 p.m. at the Civic Center on May 27th.
SENIOR TRIP:
The seniors have planned to travel to Salt Lake City, Utah with Ms. Vance and Mr. McDougall from June 6th -June 8th for their senior trip!  An initial non-refundable deposit of $50 and a signed permission slip are due to Mr. McDougall by May 5. The total cost for the trip will not exceed $100. An itinerary, packet, and permission slip were sent home last week with each senior.
