NO SCHOOL OCTOBER 12-16, 2015 DUE TO FALL BREAK
 
VCS IS CELERBATING! 94% AT OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL ON IDAHO SCIENCE EOC ASSESSMENT
30 out of 32 students scored proficient or advanced on the 10th grade Idaho Science End of Course Exam taken at the end of last school year. Twenty nine students took the Biology EOC and three took the Chemistry EOC! Of the 94% who scored at grade level or above, 56% scored Advanced. Way to go students, staff, and parents!
 
ASSOCIATE OF ARTS APPLICATION DUE DATES:
Applications for the fall 2015 semester Associate of Arts program (CWI) at VCS are DUE October 9, 2015 by 3:00 p.m. in the counselor's office. BURGERLICIOUS:
The class of 2017 has invited the BURGERLICIOUS TRUCK to sell food to the 7-12th grade students and staff during their lunch time on October 8th. The truck will park out on the basketball court and serve students interested in trying out the Burgerlicious menu! A portion of all sales will be donated back to the Junior class fund.
 
Harvest Social- High School
The 2015 Harvest Social will be held in the gym from 7-9pm, October 23. The cost of entry is $7, this includes a food ticket. A costume contest will be held that evening. The boy and girl with the best redneck costume will win a free prom ticket, complimentary of the Juniors. Modesty rules apply.
 
JASON GEORGE RECEIVES AWARD
The Idaho Press Tribune this past week highlighted Vision Charter School's Biology Teacher, Mr. George, for receiving the prestigious science award. "A Caldwell science teacher is one of four science teachers being recognized by the state. Jason George, who teaches at Vision Charter School, was honored Thursday with three other teachers as the top secondary school science teachers in Idaho. The recognition was a part of the annual Fall Science Conference held in Rexburg. The four winners will represent Idaho in the National Presidential Award for excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. One winner will be represented as the best science teacher in Idaho.
Teachers selected for the national award will be given $10,000 from the National Science Foundation as well as a trip to Washington, D.C., for a series of award ceremonies and events, professional development activities and discussion with national policy makers on how to improve science and math education."

10th/11th PSAT
The PSAT for 10th and 11th graders will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Any junior that would like to take it to enter the National Merit Scholarship program should bring $15 to Mrs. Brockert to sign up. Checks should be written out to Vision Charter School with PSAT in the memo line.
COLLEGE FAIR
The Juniors/Seniors National College Fair is Monday, October 19, 2015. All juniors and interested seniors will be going to the college fair during the day. Parents can attend in the evening from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. with their student. Please contact our guidance counselor, Ms. Dowski at marydowski@visioncsd.org for more information.
BASKETBALL JAMBOREE:
The last VCS Basketball Intramural Jamboree will be held this upcoming Friday, October 9th from 4-6 p.m. in the VCS gym!

The staff versus students Basketball game will take place at Middleton Middle School from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, October 29th. Mark your calendars! This is an event you do not want to miss!!!!!

OCTOBER BOOK:
The School-wide book for October will be the Jungle Book. All costumes must tie to the Jungle Book. Classroom celebrations on October 29 will be based on celebrating the Jungle Book.

"Good citizens try to be part of a solution when they see a problem. Is there a problem that's been bothering you? Look around your neighborhood. Are there some weeds that need your attention or some trash in the ditches? Could your neighbor use some help raking his leaves? There might be an elderly friend nearby who just needs a visit now and again. Maybe there's something at school you could help fix. Choose a problem, do some research, find an adult to help you out, and carry out your solution. It's that simple!
Think a child or a family can't make a difference? Not so. Little things -- like using a colorful cloth bag for groceries or tossing potato peels and eggshells into the compost heap -- can help the environment. EVERY DAY COUNTS CAMPAIGN! 
Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student's academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school, in college, and in a future job.
A few practical tips to help support regular attendance:
  • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick
  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor appointments when school is in session.  Set appointments after school or for Friday's we do not have school.  
  • Talk to the teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
  • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.
 
Attendance from the first day of school through the first Friday in November drives 85% of all funding for Vision Charter School.
All students attending school every single day from 9/3/2015 - 11/6/2015 will receive two tickets for a drawing for an IPAD MINI. Every student who attends every day but one from 9/3/2015-11/6/2015 will receive one ticket for a drawing for an IPAD MINI.
Every student who misses one day or less during this period will receive a "FREE JEANS DAY PASS". 
**K-5th grade students will have one IPAD MINI drawn for Elementary. 
**6th-12th will have one IPAD MINI drawn for Secondary. 
*** A Full day of attendance requires a student to receive a minimum of 4 ½ hours of instruction. (Not including passing periods or lunch recess time.)
