October School -Wide Book:
Vision Charter School will read the book Alice in Wonderland in the month of October.  We will celebrate this book by dressing up like characters from the book on October 31st. Students may use temporary hair die or face make-up as part of their costumes, however, no real or look alike weapons are allowed. (Modesty rules still apply.) Class parties will be based on celebrating the book.

Blood Drive:

Vision charter school is hosting its second Red Cross blood drive. The blood drive will take place at VCS on Saturday, October 25 from 9 to 2. We are looking to fill the schedule of donors. If you are willing to donate please contact Mrs. Lair at 455-9220, or email erinlair@visioncsd.org. Anyone 16 or older is eligible. High School students may qualify for a scholarship for donating- see a NHS member for details.

Everyday Counts Campaign

Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student's academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school, in college, and in a future job!

A few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

  • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick
  • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor appointments when school is in session.  Set appointments for early release Wednesday's whenever possible.
  • Talk to the teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
  • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

Attendance from the first day of school through the first Friday in November drives 85% of all funding for Vision Charter School.

All students attending school every single day from 9/5/2014 - 11/7/2014 will receive two tickets for a drawing for an IPAD MINI. Every student who attends every day but one from 9/5/2014-11/7/2014 will receive one ticket for a drawing for an IPAD MINI.

Every student who misses one day or less during this period will receive a "FREE JEANS DAY PASS".

**K-5th grade students will have one IPAD MINI drawn for Elementary.  (342 students)

**6th-12th will have one IPAD MINI drawn for Secondary.  (344 students)

*** A Full day of attendance requires a student to receive a minimum of 4 ½ hours of instruction. (Not including passing periods or lunch recess time.)

PSAT:

All Sophomores will take the PSAT for FREE on October 29th.  If you would like your 7th -11th grade child to be able to participate in the PSAT test, send a check for $14 made out to Vision Charter School to the secondary office. Limited spots are available. Please put PSAT in the memo line.

PT conferences will be held on Friday, November 14th.

Elementary staff will communicate with parents regarding the specific scheduled conference times or drop in opportunities as applicable. Report Cards will be distributed at Parent Teacher Conferences or sent home after conferences.

Parent Faculty Association Happenings

The PFA is in full swing for the 2014-2015 school year.  Our first meeting was held October 7th, 2014. We want to thank all of the families who came out for the Farmstead Fundraiser and Family Movie Night.  It was a great success, especially since we got to watch Mrs. Oldenkamp "Kiss the Pig" twice!  We will be sending Box Tops collection sheets this month, please watch for them, they are worth a free popcorn at the Snack Shack or a jeans day  pass.  Spirit Gear is for sale each week at the Snack Shack as well as future school events.  We need more volunteers to help at the Snack Shack on Fridays from 10-11:30, please check your schedules.  Any help would be appreciated.

The Treasurer's report:

Movie Night $457.35

Snack Shack $292.81.  We have not collected all the money from the Farmstead event, yet.

We are very excited to announce that the PFA has chosen to do a Spring School Carnival for our 2014-2015 school fundraiser.  This will be another fun event that will bring the families of Vision together while having fun and creating memories.

Planning for the Spring Carnival will begin at our next meeting November 6, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the library. Please make plans now to attend as your input is encouraged to ensure this event is a success. If you are not able to come to the meeting and would still like to be involved or would like to be part of a committee please email Stacy Nelson at Stacynelson0529@gmail.com.
