If your student is planning to apply for any financial aid available from their college or university (including scholarships) they will need to fill out the FAFSA. Students generally need to have the FAFSA done by Feb 15, 2014 to increase their chances of financial aid.

Middle School Robotics Team Takes Home A Trophy!

The Vision Charter School Golden Eagle Middle School Robotics Team scored fifth at the regional competition held in Nampa on December 7, 2013. They advanced to the first Lego League Southern Idaho Championship held in Twin Falls on January 25, 2014. As a first year team competing, this was a huge honor to advance. They received the only trophy given for Programming out of 47 First Lego League Robotics Teams.  Judges commented on the innovative alignment, streamlined and easy to understand code, and reproducible results with no driver intervention.

First Lego League teams participate in three team judging sessions where they present their robot design and programming, a project presentation based on an innovative solution to a real world problem, and finally a session where they are judged on teamwork and the FLL Core Values. Teams also compete in three official rounds of Robot Performance where their robot completes missions autonomously.

Out of 47 teams, the Golden Eagles ranked 23rd in Robot Performance and Mission Completions with 187 total points.

Team members include David Snow, Isaac OldenKamp, Ryan Bauscher, Ty Collins, Ben Collins, and Xavier McDougall. Nivy Snow was the Assistant Coach and Wendy OldenKamp was the head coach.

A/V Tech Class receives a FUTURE CITIES award!

Mr. Leavell's Audio Video Technology class participated in the Future Cities Competition held at BSU's college of Engineering this past weekend. After working since the start of school on the mandatory computer simulation, city essay, diorama, and city presentation. This competition is unique that the students present their ideas to working professionals in the engineering and city planning industry.

While the entire A/V class participated in each of the design phases and projects the final presenters to the competition were Jason Jorgensen, James Riebe, Zach Clapier, and Nate Rice. The class worked very hard and in the end won the theme award for this year, Best Innovative Transportation Solutions Award from the Idaho Dept. of Transportation. We are extremely proud of this award and the pride it brings this class and school as being part of educating the future leaders of industry.

Driver's Education Class Information:

About the instructor Camille Woodworth: She has been teaching Driver's Ed. for 10 years.  She has a business degree from Arizona State University, a K-8 Teaching Credential from BSU and has almost completed a Masters of Reading Education from BSU.  Graduated Driver Licensing Law in Idaho states that students aged 14.5 to 17 are required to attend 30 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours of driving and 6 hours of observation behind the wheel.  After they graduate from Driver Education they are then required to drive for 6 months with a licensed driver aged 21 or older.

Classes: The classes are typically 2 weeks in length for the classroom session with the driving stretching into a third or fourth week depending on the number of students in the class.  Classes are held from 3:30-6:30 M-F.  Classes for Vision students are held when there are 10 or more students enrolled. Students can be transported from Vision to the classroom at 310 N. Hawthorne St. in Middleton on bus #6.

Cost: The cost for Vision students is $190.00.  The state subsidizes the remaining tuition. Students are considered enrolled when Camille Woodworth has received a $100.00 deposit and the student registration paperwork.

IN THE EVENT OF SCHOOL CLOSURE OR EMERGENCY CLOSURE: The most accurate updated information can be found on our Facebook page and our website at visioncharterschool.net.  We will also send out updates via this newsletter. If you would like to receive our newsletters, you may sign up on our website.

You may also check updates on KTVB channel 7, KBOI channel 2, KIVI/KSAW channel 6 and 9.

We are aware that many families are traveling a long distance daily to get to VCS.  In the event of snow and ice, we prefer that you and your family come late to school and be safe rather than rush to avoid a tardy and potentially encounter dangerous traffic situations. Therefore, we will not count your child absent as long as they are at school NO LATER than 10 a.m. daily during harsh weather conditions. Please notify the attendance clerk when signing in that the tardy was due to road conditions.  Tardies will always be excused during bad weather days. This grace period only applies on bad weather days.  Your safety is our first priority!  (Your child will still be responsible to make up missed work from any class per the attendance policy.)
