Men's Group for Sexual Abuse

Do you experience feelings of fear, shame, and anger?

Do you struggle to express your anger without blowing up?

Do you have trust issues in your relationships?

These are common experiences for those who have been sexually abused. If you have been the victim of sexual abuse or sexual assault, you are not alone. 1 in 6 men will be sexually traumatized over the course of their life. Talking about it is the only way to regain the power that was taken from you.

In early June, the Victim Service Center launched a new therapy group for male victims of sexual abuse and assault. In this group we offer a safe, confidential place to talk about your experience and how it has affected your life. This is a closed group; however, if you're interested in joining, please contact our office, and a victim advocate can help you: (407) 254-9415.

Myths About Male Victims of Sexual Violence

Adapted from MaleSurvivor.org

  1. Boys and men can't be victims.
  2. Boys abused by males will become homosexuals.
  3. Men are less traumatized by sexual violence than women.
  4. If the perpetrator is female, the victim should want the sexual experience.
  5. Sexual arousal during the abuse means you wanted it to happen.
  6. Boys who are abused will go on to abuse others.

S.A.F.E. Classes Continue in
Winter Park and Ocoee

What is the S.A.F.E. Program?
The S.A.F.E. program is an initiative to STOP violence against teenaged and adult women. "S.A.F.E." (an acronym for Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange) is a FREE, unparalleled 2-hour educational awareness, crime-victim prevention program designed by the National Self-Defense Institute. This program encompasses strategies, techniques, and options for teenaged & adult women that may reduce their risk of exposure to violence and introduce them to the basic physical aspects of self-defense. Participants will become familiar with the "survival mindset" and practice several techniques for avoiding potential abduction encounters perpetrated against women.

The Winter Park Police Department, in partnership with the Victim Service Center of Central Florida, continues to conduct S.A.F.E. classes for women who work and live in the City of Winter Park.

Classes are free, but you must sign-up to attend.

While we had to say goodbye to our dearly departed Mitsubishi Lancer (it puttered its last putter on the side of I-4), that hasn't slowed down Prevention Specialist Rhonda Wilson one bit. Rhonda has been singing a love song for her Summer Nights of outreach events and educational presentations that could put Sandy & Johnny to shame! Be sure to follow along on Facebook and Twitter!
