New Colposcope for Treatment Center

The VSC's new colposcope has arrived, and there's at least one person that couldn't be happier. "I love it and can't wait to use it," said SANE Coordinator Judy Bednar.

The colposcope will be housed in our Sexual Assault Treatment Center and will make forensic collection after a victimization all the easier. Among its many benefits are ease of operation, unobstructed view, continuous auto focus, high resolution images, and the ability to capture images remotely.

Can You Help?

We need sports bras and stretchy or loose-fitting women's pants or shorts. All sizes are appreciated.

In a forensic investigation, sexual assault survivors lose personal items when they are taken into custody for evidence.

Each year, we at the Victim Service Center collect clothing for victims to wear home. We are seeking emergency donations of new items to ensure that each client we see at our Sexual Assault Treatment Center has comfortable clothing to wear after an exam. In the midst of her trauma, this one extra step goes a long way.

Please consider donating a pair of new pants or shorts or new sports bras to the Victim Service Center today. Thank you for your continued support.

Highlights from the Benefit Show on November 9
We want to give a huge THANK YOU to Nicolette Shurba, a student at the University of Central Florida, who conceived and organized a benefit concert for us with 4 great bands on November 9 at Stardust Video & Coffee. She came up with the idea, found a venue, booked the bands, and rallied the troops to come out and support us.

If you want to host an event on our behalf, let us know! We will try to work with you to put your dream into action. Call us at (407) 254-9415.

December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month

December has been designated National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

In President Obama's official proclamation last year, he stated, "All of us have the power to effect change and work to end drunk, drugged, and distracted driving in America. In our homes and communities, we can engage our youth and discuss the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. In our clinics and hospitals, health care providers can redouble their efforts to recognize patients with substance abuse problems and offer medical intervention. And in governing bodies across our country, State and local officials can explore new legal actions that will hold drugged drivers accountable and encourage them to seek treatment. As we come together with our loved ones this holiday season, let us renew our commitment to drive safely, act responsibly, and live drug-free."
