Happy Earth Day to the Best Darn Planet Ever!

There is a lot to love about our home, and a lot to be concerned about. Climate change, rampant pollution, deforestation, species hunted to extinction, it just seems to go on forever. Please join all of us at Ripley-Grier in celebrating the majesty of our fragile home, and letting that appreciation inform our sense of responsibility.
Sustainable Business at RG

Here at Ripley-Grier, we take our environmental resonsibility very seriously. We exclusively use recycled paper products in our restrooms, provide recycling stations on every floor, as well as water reclaimation programs for watering our plants, using cast-off bottled water. All studios built after 2012 feature sustainable-growth bamboo floors in place of hardwood, and this year, we are refitting ALL studios with energy-efficient LED lighting, to reduce power consumption by nearly 70%.

Let NYC plant a tree in your hood!

MillionTreesNYC, one of the 132 PlaNYC initiatives, is a citywide, public-private program with an ambitious goal: to plant and care for one million new trees across the City's five boroughs over the next decade. By planting one million trees, New York City can increase its urban forest-our most valuable environmental asset made up of street trees, park trees, and trees on public, private and commercial land-by an astounding 20%, while achieving the many quality-of-life benefits that come with planting trees.

Call 311 or visit MillionTreesNYC.org to learn how to get a FREE tree planted on your block!

You Are on a ROCK, Flying through SPACE!
And what a rock it is. The more we explore the cosmos, the more we can appreciate the miracle that is the little blue sphere we call home. Let's hear it for the oceans! The ozone layer! The rain forests! Three cheers for the magnetosphere! Yes, the magnetosphere! Without it, we'd be baking in solar radiation, like those poor Martians. Love her, respect her, and care for her. Just like your mama!

Client Spotlight:
Marie Elena Scioscia

"Connsumate professional" is a phrase that is well-worn these days, but there is no other term more apt to describe Marie Elena Scioscia. In practice for 25 years, and a regular fitness instructor at our 131 west 72nd street studios since 1993, she teaches what she calls a "classic, solid, body sculpture class" to a core group of students, many of whom have been with here for 20 years or more. Ms. Scioscia is a former dancer and board certified dietitian, currently serving as Head Dietitian for Alvin Ailey Dance Company, as well as maintaining her own offices on the Upper West Side and in New Jersey. She keeps her classes small, the better to treat her students to the kind of individualized attention they have come to expect. In her words, "I know all my students, so I know their strengths and weaknesses". She prides herself on her record of "zero injuries", and an ethic rooted in "proper exercise science". Ms. Scioscia can be reached for more information at sciosciam@aol.com

Happy Earth Day fellow Earthlings!!

Ask:  what can I do to help keep Earth a viable place for all feng shui color chart earthlings to live? Here are some simple and some more complex things we can do to help our environment and keep this planet liveable for all creatures. Choose a few and move forward!

Do not constantly run the water when you brush your teeth or wash up.

Bathe & Shower less. Your skin & hair will love you for it. (Do touch-up wash, please!) Fix leaky faucets & toilets. (In Feng Shui plumbing problems means money down the drain & poor health).

If you have a dishwasher use the quick wash setting for lightly soiled dishes not the regular setting.

Use cold water to wash clothes, use the quick wash setting. Use phosphate free products.

Help reduce the plastic water bottle refuse:

1.Buy a faucet water purifier/filter, or a counter top filter unit.

2.Have a washable water bottle and use the filtered water from the tap or counter filter unit.

Reduce/ stop meat consumption (gallons of water to produce a lb of meat compared to vegetables).

Purchase organic products as much as possible,  less harmful fertilizers, pesticides, and hormones.

Take public transportation, bike or walk.  Reduce car emissions.

Turn off lights when not in use, use energy efficient bulbs.

Support legislation to reduce airplane  and auto emissions.

Support alternative energy, become educated on Fracking, Oil, Gas ,& Coal mining pros/cons.

Support legislation and get involved in projects that support environmental protection, especially water supply system reform, food purity and wildlife natural environment protection.

Support Zero population growth. The more people we have the more we use and abuse resources.

Think about future generations in all aspects of your actions.

Volunteer when possible (we need all the help we can get).

Embrace the plight of our fellow earth citizens and help them cope.

Eat less, eat better, waste less food. Grow a vegetable garden( even in pots).

Make the effort to recycle. Use re-useable bags for shopping and for carrying items. Return plastic bags to markets to recycle.  If you cannot, tie them into  knots so they don't fly around dumps and into trees & wildlife areas.( learned this in Maui). Cut up your webbed beer & soda holders (protects wildlife).

If you see trash in front of you pick it up when safe to do so.

Keep natural spaces trash free, go the extra mile clean up what you see.

Stay healthy in mind, body and spirit. Support natural medicines over prescription pharmaceuticals.

Enjoy sunny days and embrace rainy ones.

Do one good deed a day.

Don't be arrogant about being an American when it comes to overabundance and resources. Look around at the rest of the world and embrace your good luck.

Celebrate Earth Day, every year it becomes more relevant.

The Planet Earth is the ultimate natural example of Fung Shui principles.

Patricia Ripley is the Founder and CEO of Ripley-Grier Studios and a certified Feng Shui consultant.

This month, for Spring Break, I went on a trip to Cancun with my family! This was not my first time there, but it was for other people in my family. There were 9 of us: 5 kids and 4 adults.

We had so much fun, the food was great, we went to a couple shows, and we went to a really fun water park called Xcaret. We floated a mile in life vests on a clear fresh water river which was partly underground. We got to swim with the dolphins (my 2nd time).

One of the shows we went to was a new Cirque du Soleil show called "Joya".  It was amazing!  The acrobats and dancers were awesome and this show is actually the first Cirque du Soleil show to open in Mexico. We also went to two other shows one was a Mexican Fiesta Night at the hotel. One show was a huge spectacular at the Xcaret park all about Mexican history and culture, lots of music and dancing. We went to Tulum to visit the Mayan ruins and on that trip went snorkeling and got to swim with turtles.  I had a lot of fun on this trip and I hope we can go on another family trip soon!
