Al Maag, chief communications officer-Avnet, initiated the first Business Marketing Association salary survey while he was serving as national chairman of the BMA. More than 530 industry professionals participated in the online survey. They shared information about their pay, their ambitions and their satisfaction with their current job roles. The results paint a picture not just of our pay stubs, but also of an industry in flux.

PJA Advertising+Marketing released the final segment of its audio pilot program The Unconventionals last week, introducing listeners to Rubber Tracks recording studio in Brooklyn. Converse, maker of the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star shoe brand, operates the studio and invites up-and-coming musicians to use it for free. The bill lands on the desk of Converse CMO Geoff Cottrill.

It is clear to me, in technology and in the Silicon Valley, that there is a divide between old school marketers and the new generation of digital natives. We place an unwarranted focus on the things that divide us, instead of focusing on the things that unite us. As the president of NorCal BMA, my challenge is to invite young professionals to join our chapter at this juncture in their careers. After all, we are the company that we keep.

Slack: Annual BMA conference ready to 'blaze' in Chicago

Gary Slack spearheads planning for the 2013 International BMA Conference, which will take place May 29-31 in Chicago. The chairman and chief experience officer of Slack and Co. already has organized the annual conference four times, and the event has tripled in size during his tenure. "We expect more than 1,000 people this year," he says. "One of the reasons that our conference has grown to where it is today: About 90% of our speakers are corporate marketers. When you come to the BMA conference, you know that you're going to be listening to peers."

Not all lead generation programs are created equal. BtoB takes a look at the strategies that marketers employ and identifies the mind-set that correlates to the most highly effective - and the least effective - programs. See where your organization's approach falls on the spectrum. The white paper, which is based on Lead Generation: A Fundamental Flourishes in the Digital Era, is made available free to BMA Buzz subscribers.
