Scout Trip to Charleston

The Boy Scouts of Troop #278 recently camped out in Charleston, South Carolina. While there, they visited the USS Yorktown and USS Laffey, two WWII era ships containing a "treasure trove" of US history and naval memorabilia. The Yorktown is enormous and displays real aircraft from WWII era Corsairs to the F/A-18 Hornets still flown by the Blue Angels today. While in Charleston, the Scouts also went to the beach where 13 year old Walter found several sharks' teeth. The troop has hopes of making more trips this summer in an effort to explore history.

"I liked going to see the USS Yorktown because we got to play tag on top of the ship!" - Michael T., 12

"The USS Yorktown was really interesting because there were a lot of weapons and artifacts about strategies they used in WWII." - Walter, 13
