New Age Guru loses bid for Congressional Seat
| |  If you've tracked the New Age Movement for long then you are aware of Oprah Winfrey's promotion of numerous mystics and occultists. Perhaps the most notable New Age guru Winfrey promoted during her days as queen of daytime TV was author and New Age teacher, Marianne Williamson. With Oprah's help, and through her writings and seminars, Williamson has been responsible for introducing perhaps millions to the trance-channeled teachings of now-deceased Columbia professor Helen Schucman and her book A Course in Miracles.
A few days ago Marianne Williamson came in forth in the primary election among Democrats and thus lost in her bid to replace the retiring Henry Waxman in California's 33rd Congressional District. Evidently not even California's so called "silicone beach" district is ready to be represented by someone as spiritually goofy as Williamson.

Update on The Shack - Movie Production Underway

I have reported for over six years now on the craze created by William "Paul" Young's The Shack (see menu here). Having heard the author speak on three occasions and also having met with him privately back in the Fall of 2008, I wrote that Young is perhaps the nicest heretic I'd met in many years. This nice, but misguided fellow rode the crest of some 89 weeks at either #1 or #2 on the New York Times Bestseller List (fiction) and, after navigating through a multimillion dollar lawsuit with his publishing partners, has finally arrived were he'd hoped to be all along - with a major motion picture deal.
In my 2008 DVD production "The Death of Discernment - How The Shack Became the #1 Bestseller in Christianity" I asked the question that if Bible believers thought that the confusion caused by Young's "Papa" character (a rotund, dark skinned woman presented as God) would be detrimental in rightly portraying who God actually is to the world, then imagine if the book every made it to the big screen as a film with someone like singer-actor Queen Latifah or Oprah Winfrey cast as God?
The Shack film this summer by Lionsgate Films. The headline read: "Oprah, Forrest Whitaker, Idris Elba to Star in Controversial 'Shack' Movie." I suggest that Biblical Christians prepare to give answers to Shack movie viewers concerning the Trinity and the nature of God. We should also prepare to discuss the biblical plan of salvation as well as a sound refutation of "Reconciling Universalism" which is the underlying theme of Paul Young's book.
We might also want to be ready to point out that there is no confusion about whom God is among the historical, orthodox Jews. From the beginning He has always been referred to in the masculine. He is also not to be represented in the figure of a human (or anything else according to Romans 1) as He is spirit (John 4), and He is not a she regardless of how confused many seem to be about gender today.
