 Many of you have read and followed these updates since well before we moved our family and ministry back to Seattle nearly 10 years ago. We made that transition specifically so we could be available to help care for Melanie's Mom, Berneice, and then over time for her Dad, Dale. We lost Mom in December of 2011 and this morning (December 13, 2013) Melanie's father, Dale, peacefully passed away at 90.  | | Dad Reed at a birthday celebration in 2008. His laugh was infectious! |
Though Dale's passing was not unexpected it is no less difficult for our family. Dad was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
Since Mom Berneice's went to Heaven in December, 2011, we have now suffered the loss of four loved ones. In the natural world it has been a real test but the Lord has seen us through. And, these occasions have given us ample opportunity to speak to others within our family about eternity and the need each of us have for a relationship with Christ. I'll be doing that again when I preside at Dad's funeral service on Wednesday this week. Please keep our family in prayer in these days, particularly on Wednesday.
We are grateful to have your prayers and support and are most grateful to our Savior and King for the opportunity to both serve and to honor Him during this season in our personal lives.

I want to take just a moment to note that Melanie not only serves as loving wife, mother, and grandmother, but she is simply indispensable to our ministry in several capacities. However, during these years back here in the Northwest she has served her parents in what I believe is an extraordinary fashion disregarding her own health and well-being and acting as a godly, faithful advocate including many months of round-the-clock care giving. That era is now coming to a close. And I just want to say thanks Honey. I know you wouldn't have wanted it any other way but you are truly a rare blessing beyond words.
