The Benefits of Nature and Camping

How can camping benefit my kids?
There can be numerous advantages of camping for children. Camping can help children learn to be aware of their surroundings and what is taking place around them. It can teach them basic survival skills, enabling them to better handle a problem if one should arise. Camping can help children understand nature and the earth, its importance, and how to take care of it. Camping gives children something to connect to and tasks that even small children can perform, increasing their self-esteem.
The benefits don't diminish with age either. Camping can have profound effects on adolescents. It can help prepare them for adulthood by teaching them life skills and how to take care of themselves. Camping can be a wonderful bonding moment, allowing them to speak more freely of their feelings and concerns that they would otherwise not feel comfortable talking about. It makes them realize that the world is bigger than some of the menial aspects of life, thus making things like peer pressure or a bad grade seem less daunting. Camping also informs them about nature, they can better understand its force and although it might not ultimately seem fair, it is all the "circle of life."
Other nature outings such as hiking and fishing can have tremendous rewards too. Hiking is not only a great exercise but a great way to blow off steam and clear your head. You can learn a lot about the woods, animals, and even yourself while hiking. While fishing tends to not be as good of an exercise as hiking, it definitely has undeniable benefits, especially for children. Fishing can help adults unwind and tune into the simplicity of nature. Children can learn the ultimate form of patience and determination while fishing.
Lastly, you can create lasting memories for your children when camping. Funny camp stories or interesting ways you "made due" with what you brought, can turn into treasured memories down the road. Also, it can be a great opportunity to put away the electronics and connect with each other all while communing with nature.
