AF key Academic Foundation

Thanks to everyone able to join us for our year-end celebration/final meeting of the school year. Special thanks to Ms. Dicus and Ms. Spinka for their suggestions on keeping students engaged and on track over the summer. They recommended that students take some time to investigate college major and career choices by using online tools that help match them based on their interests and personality. Two tools to try are PlanStudent.org and MyPlan.com. In addition, Family Connection has tools to help students find their path. Regular practice for the ACT and SAT was also suggested. And of course there is always community service to keep your kids busy. A list of local organizations accepting teens is available on the Guidance website.

Academic Foundation closed out the year by awarding grants including laptops for Chemistry and English classes, novels and summer conference registrations. Thanks to our members and business partners for making this such a successful year. Every member makes a difference!

logo New Online Resources

Our school district has made available several resources to help students with virtually every subject area and with SAT prep. Our students can now access Khan Academy, PowerMyLearning, and the Desmos Graphing Calculator through the Clever portal at www.clever.com/in/hcps. Check out this site to learn how each of these tools can benefit your student.

media center Media Center Updates and Summer Reading Assignment Book Fair

There are some great things happening in our PHS Media Center such as monthly contests, topical displays, book discussions, and support for classroom curriculum. In addition, we have a Summer Reading Assignment Book Fair through Barnes & Noble starting soon. The South Tampa location has the list of summer reading assignment titles and will have these books in stock throughout the summer. From May 26th through June 3rd, 15% of the sales of those books and most any other items purchased, using our Book Fair voucher #11625589, will go to the Media Center. Click here for more details about what's happening at the PHS Media Center and make sure to follow us on Follow us on Twitter!

AP Testing Update

We did it! Almost 3700 exams have been administered, packed up, and shipped off to College Board. Plant's Administration and Guidance staff would like to thank all of the parents who volunteered this year. We could not have handled this massive testing without your help.

Faculty Honor Roll

Thank you to all PHS students and parents who showed overwhelming gratitude and admiration to our faculty this year through Faculty Honor Roll. FHR Gold Cards are everywhere! We have such an amazing faculty and staff at Plant and it shows.

And no, it's not too late to get your personal note onto a Faculty Honor Roll Card for your favorite staff member. Just go to our website for information.

Have a great summer everyone!

Reflections

Great news! This fall, Plant will be participating in National PTA's Reflections program. Reflections is an art competition intended to raise awareness of the arts in education. Students can enter original works in any of these six categories - Visual Art, Photography, Music Composition, Literature, Film Production and Dance Choreography. There is also a separate category for students with disabilities. All works must incorporate this year's theme, Let Your Imagination Fly. Students are encouraged to begin development of their pieces over the summer, as entries will be due sometime in October. More information is available on National PTA's website - just scroll down the page to Item 3 and click on each category to see entry requirements. If you have any questions, please email Jennifer Wiezorek.

A Successful Crew Season!

Plant athletes finished 2nd overall at the Scholastic Rowing State Championship! The Men's and Women's Lightweight 8's both brought home bronze medals, and the Women's Second Varsity 8 brought home gold, winning the state rowing title! Plant qualified 68 athletes for the Scholastic National Championship in Camden, NJ on May 22nd and 23rd.

Boys Track and Field

The boys track and field team came away with one of its most successful weekends in school history. Of the three boys who qualified for the State Championship, all three of them medaled. Plant was led by Jack Guyton in both the 1600 meter race and the 3200 race. He was the runner-up in the 1600 in a time of 4:16.96 and then came back to finish third in the 3200 with a time of 9:28.39! Also in the 1600, Quasan Markowski finished 7th to medal in a time of 4:23. In the 3200, Rob Leverone got 7th as well in a time of 9:42.36. Congratulations students!

Girls Track and Field
Girls track and field finished strong at the State Championship with Anna Peyton Malizia receiving a medal for placing 5th in the State in the high jump at 5 ft 4 in! Congratulations to Anna Peyton and the entire girls track and field team on a great season!
