AF key Academic Foundation

Please plan to join us for our next Academic Foundation meeting on Tuesday, April 14th at 9:15 in the Cafeteria. Derek Thomas, a former Plant English teacher who now works with the school district as a Coordinator for Advanced Academics, will be talking about Advanced Placement. He'll cover curriculum, testing and the pros and cons of AP vs. dual enrollment. In addition, we'll be announcing our slate of officers for next year. And of course you'll find out about the grants we are funding this month.

Faculty Honor Roll is in full swing! Don't miss this opportunity to honor a staff member while helping students at Plant. Look for more information later in this newsletter.

Volunteer of the Year Award Winner
Congratulations to Jennifer Wiezorek, named the 2014-2015 Plant High School Volunteer of the Year! Jennifer's impact at Plant has been immeasurable and her volunteer efforts will be felt and appreciated long after she moves on. Thank you Jennifer for all of your hard work!

Jennifer (far right) is pictured with finalists Pamela Jackson-Haney, Sarah Spicola, and the family of Gary Reddick. Not pictured is finalist Teresa Wilkins. Thanks to all of our Volunteer of the Year Award finalists for their exemplary service to the Plant community and to all of our hard working volunteers at the school. Your efforts help make Plant the award winning school it is.

Seniors 3 - D word Grad Bash
Seniors, want one last fun event with your friends? Then go to Grad Bash 2015! Grad Bash will begin this year on Friday, April 24th. Tickets will be on sale in the cafeteria now through April 10th, or until they sell out. Tickets cost $100 (cash only) which includes admission to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, and transportation to and from the event. Buses depart Plant at 5 pm on Friday and return at around 4 am on Saturday.
Class of 2015 Senior Banquet
The senior class banquet will be held in the gymnasium on April 27th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Due to this creative new idea, and the generous PTSA donation in the amount of $1500, the cost per student will only be $30.

A lot of work has to be done to convert the gym into an inviting space. We will be renting tables and chairs, a big screen for the senior video, linens, lighting, creating table arrangements, and the dinner will be catered.

We need any and all parent volunteers to make this event a success. We want senior parents to serve the dinner and donate desserts. Volunteers are also needed to decorate the day of the event in order to transform the gym into a beautiful venue. Contact Beth Garcia if you can help.

Class of 2015 Graduation Update

Plant High School graduation for the Class of 2015 will be held on Wednesday, May 27th at 1 pm at the Fairgrounds. Graduation rehearsal will take place on Friday, May 22nd at 9 am at the Fairgrounds.

All Plant High students will be dismissed at 11 am on May 27th in order to attend the graduation ceremony. See you there!

Faculty Honor Roll
Which Plant High faculty members have made a difference in your child's life? Maybe it's a teacher who inspired your son to see his full potential. Or a coach who motivated your daughter to give it everything she's got. Perhaps it was an administrator or a guidance counselor who went the extra mile. These are all reasons to support the Faculty Honor Roll program. Sponsored by the PHS Academic Foundation, this annual event invites parents like you to say thank you to a special faculty member at Plant by awarding them with their own Honor Roll "Gold Card."

With a donation to Faculty Honor Roll, the Academic Foundation will award the faculty members of your choice with a personalized thank you note and list them on this year's coveted Honor Roll. By doing so, you are not only supporting the Academic Foundation's annual fundraiser which helps to fulfill the needs in our classrooms, but you are also showing gratitude for those who have positively influenced our children's high school experience.

For more information, view the video below produced by Ms. McCurley's TV Productions class. Or contact Faculty Honor Roll Chairpersons Lanore Wadsworth or Nelson Guagliardo.

Hillsborough County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the We Deliver Award. For the past 9 years, the district, in partnership with the Hillsborough Education Foundation, has honored an employee who has gone above and beyond to deliver excellence to our students. This year, we are looking for someone who has gone the extra mile while dealing with their own personal, life changing struggle.

Anyone can nominate a district employee for the award. The winner will receive a check for $10,000 and the honor of representing so many deserving employees who model what this award is all about. To learn more about the qualifications for We Deliver, or to nominate an employee, go to our website: www.sdhc.k12.fl.us and type We Deliver in the search box. Nominations will be accepted until Friday April 17th.

District officials as well as staff from the Education Foundation will have the opportunity to surprise the winner in early May.
