Why should you join the Academic Foundation? Chances are, every day your student is in a class that has received an AF grant. From basic items like class sets of novels or calculators to more unique items including exercise bikes, video equipment and remote response systems, our grants impact classrooms in all subject areas. panther bowl Athletic Foundation Update
Great news! Starting on November 1st, the Athletic Foundation is sponsoring the admission cost for the first 20 Plant students at all regular season home games. This is for all Plant Varsity sports, so come out and support the teams!

 

Become a Corporate Sponsor for the Panther Bowl! All funds raised will support and enhance the athletic programs at Plant. The Panther Bowl will be held on Friday, November 7th, from 6:30 to 10:30 pm at Splitsville in Channelside. We are seeking sponsors at the following levels:

  • Golden Panther - $5,000

  • Black Panther - $2,500

  • Panther Partner - $1,000

  • Panther Friend - $500

  • Panther Paw - $100

conference nightConference Night

October 23rd 3:15-5:00 & 6:00-9:00

Conference Night will be held on Thursday, October 23rd. There are two conference periods; the first is from 3:15-5:00 pm and the second is from 6:00-9:00 pm. Parents may come at any time during these sessions to meet with their student's teachers. Simply join the line at the classroom door of teachers with whom you are interested in meeting. Parents will be seen in turn. Please be mindful of others waiting in line when you are meeting with the teacher. You may visit as many of your student's teachers as you wish. Please note that teachers will not be available from 5:00-6:00 pm so they may enjoy the PTSA Fall Faculty Dinner.

 

Help your student get organized -- look for Seniors selling Plant planners ($10) and magnets ($5) in the halls during the evening.

2012 Teacher Appreciation Lunch Fall Faculty Dinner
Fall Faculty Dinner will take place on October 23rd during Conference Night. PDQ is generously sponsoring the dinner. We are especially in need of volunteers to donate gift cards for the staff prize drawing. We also need a few more volunteers to provide dessert, or to help with set up and clean up.

The Guidance office will be open on Conference Night! We will have a variety of resources available to share with parents and students so please stop by. community service Community Service Fair

A Community Service Fair will be held on November 4th in the Cafeteria from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. All students and parents are welcome to attend this free event. So far, over 20 non-profit organizations are attending. For more information, click here or contact Paula Meckley.

beta club seal Beta Club Updates
Welcome to our 152 new Beta Club members! All of you will be receiving a club card in homeroom. Mrs.Tolbert has invited all new members to join the Beta Honors Club group on Edsby for important announcements.

Mark your calendars to attend the induction ceremony on November 19th at 7 pm in the auditorium. Be an active member and get involved in one of Beta's service projects, tutoring at Plant or at Grady elementary. Stop by the Guidance office or email Mrs. Tolbert for more information.

All Beta members: We are asking your support of a Beta service project! Senior board member Melissa Jassir is coordinating this project to collect supplies for needy infants and children in several villages in Colombia. Please donate new infant clothing and supplies as well as school supplies. New Beta members can bring donations to the induction ceremony. Returning members can bring donations to the Guidance office between November 3rd and November 19th. For more details on this project, click here.
madrigals Madrigals Coming Soon!
Come join the Chorus as they present a brand new show, The Snow Queen, during the Madrigal Dinner. New songs, special effects and a fantastic feast are sure to please! It will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Hall on Saturday, December 6th at 12 and 7 pm, and on Sunday, December 7th at 5 pm. Reservations open to all on Saturday, October 25th at Showclix.com or by order form. The cost is $33/adult and $17/children under 12 for the dinner shows and $12 for the dessert matinee. Assigned seating is prioritized based on when the reservation is made, so order soon!
college hanging sign SAT Prep Course Information
The second session of the SAT prep online course has begun in preparation for the November 8th SAT test. Dates are October 11th, 18th, 25th, and November 1st. The sessions meet in Rooms 203 and 205 each Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Registration forms are available in the Guidance office and must be submitted to Mrs. Morales in Guidance before attending a class. This is an excellent opportunity to prepare for the upcoming SAT tests. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hellenberg or call her at 272-3033 ext. 226.
Plant High School Theatre Presents

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)

Come see all 37 of Shakespeare's plays performed in just 97 minutes! Join the hardest-working kids in South Tampa show business as they weave their wicked way through such classics as Romeo and Juliet, Titus Andronicus, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and even Hamlet. They will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter.

 

The show takes place on November 6th, 7th and 8th at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased from Dan Franke (office in PHS Auditorium). Prices range from $7 to $12. Click here for more information or email Dan Franke or Jeanne Doney.

2013 Orchestra PHS Orchestra Garage Sale
The Orchestra will be holding a garage sale on November 8th at 8 am and we need your help. If you have any gently used or unwanted items that you would like to donate, contact Stacey Hathioannou. All donations will benefit the PHS Orchestra.Thank you!

Boys Golf 

The golf team dominated the District competition and won with a team total of 287 (1 below par). The team then played in the Regional tournament on October 20th and came away with another win! They will be moving on to the FHSAA State 3A Finals on November 4th and 5th in Tavares, FL. Congratulations boys and good luck at the State Finals!

 

 

Swimming and Diving
The regular season has come to a close, with both teams being Western Conference and County champions.
