Plant PTSA
I hope everyone had a good first week here at Plant High School. Welcome back! The PTSA is up and running so please visit the website to join and/or donate. We depend on your membership and donations to fund teacher breakfasts, lunches, conference nights and more. We also sponsor Panther Prowl which is right around the corner, and other student programs. Our first General PTSA meeting will be on September 2nd in the cafeteria at 7:00 pm. Please come early to meet other parents and socialize. We will be selling PDQ cards that night as well -- 1- $8, 2- $15, 3- $20.
Our guest speaker will be Kiffani Irby, who will give a presentation on a new web-based program that is an academic planning tool for high school students called guidmii (guide-me). Please join us!

Academic Foundation The year is off to a fantastic start! Thank you to everyone who has already joined the Academic Foundation. AF raises funds to support classrooms at Plant, and your membership makes a difference for every student. Thank you also to our new and returning business partners. We truly appreciate your support.
Everyone is invited to be part of our success this year! Not a member yet? You can join online anytime, or download a membership form and return it following the instructions at the bottom. Prospective business partners should email Lori Markman for more information.
Please plan to attend our first meeting on September 9th at 9:15 am in the Media Center. The meeting will include Plant 101, an introductory program geared toward new parents. It's a great refresher course for veteran parents as well. We hope to see you then!

Athletic Foundation Join the Athletic Foundation today and support "The Team Behind the Teams!" All membership dollars raised go back to our teams, allowing our coaches to purchase the items they feel are necessary for their programs. Your support enriches the experience for our student athletes. Our current brochure is available in the school office or online. Join early for maximum benefit and support of our sports teams! Thank you to those families who have already generously donated.
We are kicking off the school year with a General Membership Meeting tonight, August 27th, at 7:00 pm in the Media Center. Come hear Dr. Jeff Sellman from Florida Orthopaedic Institute discuss how to treat and identify concussions, when is it safe for an athlete to participate in sports after an injury, and how to prevent common sports injuries and treat them if they do occur. All parents are invited, but parents of student athletes are strongly encouraged to attend. We hope to see you there!

Adult Mentors Needed for Connect Many students need your help this school year. As mentors, no experience is needed. We are looking for empathic adults who can spend one class period per week with a student who needs a caring figure in their lives. Every student in the program is different, so care is taken to match mentors accordingly. This 5th year program is flexible and very rewarding to the student and the mentor. For more information, email Teresa Wilkins or call her at (813) 846-3048. |
Panther Prowl Panther Prowl will take place on Wednesday, October 1st from 7 to 9 pm. Admission is $5 for all performers and guests. Come enjoy this fun, student-led pep rally, and join the Plant community in celebrating Homecoming week at PHS! |
H.B. Plant Homecoming 2014
Homecoming will take place on Saturday, October 11th, from 8 to 11 pm at the A La Carte Event Pavilion. Tickets will be sold during lunch beginning on September 29th for $45 in advance and $55 at the door (cash only). Any student bringing a date who is not a PHS student must submit a guest form. |
Senior Student Updates If you missed the Senior College Meeting on Monday, you have another opportunity to come and hear all about the college application process, financial aid, scholarships, and more. All seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend one senior meeting. The next (and final) session will be held on Thursday, August 28th at 7:00 pm in the Plant Auditorium.
Some colleges offer merit-based scholarships that require a school nomination. Click here for more information.
If you plan to take another ACT or SAT test, we recommend taking it in September or October in order to get those scores to the colleges in time for application deadlines. Please remember, it is your responsibility to send ACT or SAT scores directly to the colleges by logging in to your account on www.collegeboard.org or www.act.org. It can take 4-6 weeks for scores to reach the college so log on and send them now! For most colleges, you need at least one test score in by their deadline, then you can send updated scores after their deadline if you had a complete application. Plant High School does not send test scores to colleges.
Upcoming test dates: SAT: October 11th (Register online by September 12th)ACT: October 25th (Register online by September 19th)
