During the NCL Annual Meeting of members, major accomplishments were highlighted. This past year was a very successful one for National Charity League with milestones that included:
- New Chapter Bylaws
- Launch of high quality, on-demand, easy-to-use training and programming material for chapter officers, grade level advisors, and Ticktocker Councils
- The revitalization of the District Council structure providing essential chapter leader support, guidance, problem solving, and training impacting both Patronesses and Ticktockers
- Announcement and launch of our strategic partnership with technology vendor, Digital Cheetah to provide strategic support of the NCL, Inc. Infrastructure, the National/District/Chapter communication structure and all NCL chapters
There are many leaders to thank who have helped the organization continue to achieve its goals. Firstly, we congratulate all our Senior Ticktockers who are embarking on the next chapter in your journey beyond high school. Welcome to all the incoming Provisional members who will begin The NCL Experience this summer. You are the next generation in NCL and we count on you to keep us young, vital and relevant.
Thanks to all chapter volunteers and leaders for the completion of a dynamic year and good luck in your new roles. Your chapter needs your time and talents to deliver the best NCL Experience to your Ticktockers. Thank you to all the District Leadership Team and National Nominating Committee for all your hard work this past year. You are the backbone of our national organization.
And to our national leaders, thank you to the National Board of Directors, national volunteers, Chapter Support Team and the Leadership Development Team for all your support.

Rosalind Wiseman, Conference Keynote Speaker
As many of you may be aware, National has created an Anti-Bullying policy to promote positive interpersonal relationships as part of The NCL Experience. During conference, Rosalind Wiseman, keynote speaker addressed this relevant issue delivering a powerful message on "Cultivating a Culture of Dignity and Respect." We've provided her presentation in 5 brief topical videos that can be accessed on the national website. Additional materials will be provided in the coming months to help chapters shape curriculum and dialogue.
Here's an excerpt of her "I DEMAND" message for Young Women...
- I demand great things of you. Not that you go to the "best schools," make a lot of money, or grow up to have perfect looking lives. I demand that you have the courage to ask yourself and others hard questions that make you uncomfortable. I demand that you do so with an unshakable commitment to civil dialogue in every aspect of your life.
- I demand that you remember your dignity and the dignity of others is not negotiable.
- I demand that you always remember that your voice is important and that you make it heard.
- I demand in your jobs and in your communities and your families that you always look for ways to address social, political and economic injustice and that you should constantly be asking yourself... Whose voices are not being listened to? Who is being dismissed? What are you going to do about it?

Supporting NCL's District Structure
With the tremendous growth the organization has experienced over the past 2 years, NCL, Inc. has made it a priority to strengthen the structure of the national organization by building the capacity of the District Council. This group of 72 national leaders (4 in each district) represents 18 districts across the country serving as the local network for all 194 chapters. Focused on communication and training as cornerstones for happy healthy chapters, National has created:
- A consistent and streamlined communication plan that improves the flow of information between chapter, district and national leadership while ensuring chapter Presidents are directly supported by a key national leader - the National District Coordinator - (NDC)
- A District Leadership team annual training program that provides a face-to-face meeting of national leaders. This year marked our first annual training, which was held during the Leadership Conference. This new Training program included not only the NDCs, but for the first time District Specialists, Expansion Chapter Advisors and the NNC all participated in dedicated training sessions on one day! National will continue to enhance this basic training throughout the year with monthly support meetings between District Council and Chapter Support Team members as well as providing many virtual training opportunities.
- A new position, District Council Manager (DCM) as part of the National Headquarters Chapter Support Team to lead and manage the needs of the District Council ensuring ongoing training throughout the year and preparing this team to oversee district meetings and at the local level ongoing support of chapter boards. The DCM will help create, manage and execute successful strategies that align with national initiatives in our goal to operate Happy Healthy chapters that successfully deliver The NCL Experience year after year.

National Chapter Awards
This year's award winners included programming that addressed every category of membership -- Provisionals, Sustainers and a very special memoriam tribute to an Active Ticktocker marking the first time ever that a Ticktocker has won a national award.

Plano Area Chapter, Texas
Innovative Program Award - "GOSH Girls" Sustainers
This chapter identified a need, filled the gap and developed a very Innovative Program by asking themselves "What happens to those Patronesses who have "graduated" with an older daughter, but are not really Sustainers because they also have a younger daughter (or daughters) Active in the Ticktocker program?" This chapter in fact named the gap between having one foot in Active membership and one foot in Sustainer membership and singled them out for their experience, leadership and unique position. This subset of Patronesses received a special identifying button & recognition in the chapter newsletter. A new section has been added to the chapter website to facilitate communication between Sustainer Patronesses and the not quite Sustainer Patronesses. Even the chapter directory indicates the special designation. Oh, and the unique group was given a name: GOSH Girls. GOSH stands for Graduated, Only Still Here. The GOSH Girl program fills a need in NCL by allowing experienced leaders to stay active and yet gradually transition into the Sustainer activities.
Scottsdale Chapter, Arizona
Chartered Chapter Award - Provisional Program
This chapter integrates activities representing the Leadership, Community Service and Cultural pillars into one event that more successfully incorporates the Provisional Patronesses & Ticktockers into The NCL Experience. The sophomore Ticktockers, supported by their mothers and the chapter Board, plan, lead and execute a three-hour event that gives the Provisional class a cultural ice breaker, an on-site philanthropy activity, a tour of the host philanthropy site and a training lab on using the chapter website.
The chapter reinforces Provisional orientation by providing supporting documentation and communication: a timed agenda, description of NCL Mission, Vision, Values & Pillars; Organizational charts, The NCL Experience, Board rosters, chapter calendar, Patroness & Ticktocker requirements' cheat sheets, Patroness job placement letter & a Document Scavenger Hunt game.
The sophomore class Ticktockers are in control of the day including utilizing a script to lead the new Provisional Ticktockers in their first Grade Level Meeting and the selection of 7th grade Class Officers. With this programming Scottsdale Chapter has been successful in providing a well-rounded orientation led by both Patronesses and Ticktockers.

Spirit of NCL -Ticktocker Tribute
She was born in New York City ~~ and after living with her family in Indonesia and the Philippines moved to the United States where she eventually joined National Charity League. In her six years of membership, she earned a total of 899 philanthropy hours ~~ volunteering in 15 of her chapter's 19 philanthropies. She earned six - 100 Hour awards, a Certificate of Merit from one of her favorite philanthropies, and was the co-recipient of the Senior Spirit Award.
In November 2011 she had her first of three surgeries due to a diagnosis of an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer that affects only one in twenty million young people her age. Through multiple hospitalizations and grueling treatments, she never lost her sense of humor, concern for her siblings, and compassion for others. True to her giving nature, she created gift bags for children and their siblings who were waiting for treatments at the hospital. She helped fill Santa bags at LAC/USC two weeks after one of her surgeries - as she did not want to miss her favorite event. Incredibly, 350 of those 899 philanthropy hours were earned AFTER her diagnosis. As soon as she had recovered enough from surgery or treatments, she resumed her volunteer service.
When told there were no other options for treatment, she responded to this devastating news by telling her family that she wanted to raise $1,000 for the BMWEC (the Burmese Migrant Workers Education Committee, which provides schooling, shelter, and food for over 4,000 Burmese migrant children in Thailand) by organizing a multifaceted event. Her family had been supporting and visiting them for a number of years. She was aided by many members of her NCL chapter ~~ and to date, over $35,000 has been raised in her honor.
On August 17, 2013, just 2 ½ months shy of her 19th birthday, she peacefully passed away in her mother's arms surrounded by her family. More than 700 people attended her funeral ~~ which was even broadcast to the students and teachers she touched in Thailand. Her Ticktocker Class of 2013 put it best as they dedicated their Deb Ball in loving memory of her: "She exemplified all that is best about our NCL chapter and the organization. She was a dedicated and tireless volunteer at numerous NCL philanthropies, as well as for the many other organizations that benefitted from her efforts."

National Philanthropy Initiative
Celebrates its 2nd Year

This year an estimated 104 chapters participated in the initiative marked by originality and creativity in concept and execution.
District 11 held its 2nd district wide event, while District 5 reinvented its Operation Valentine event focusing on veterans and families coming together. The Austin Chapters did amazing work with its Military Women in Transition Day, not to mention the impact of District 10 in Texas, who came together for a common cause with about 2,500 members gathering to assemble 10,000 foot soaks for soldier's sore and achy feet!
A heartfelt thank you to every district for amazing contributions that have impacted the lives of service men and women along with their families, not to mention all NCL mothers and daughters who served together.

Expansion Chapter
Chartering Celebration
Thursday night of Conference was a magical night as we recognized 26 chapters that were in expansion this year. The highlight of the Expansion Chapter Chartering Celebration was honoring the 9 chapters that chartered in 2014. It was a true celebration with chapter members on hand to accept their hard-earned charters. These chapters worked incredibly hard to set a firm mission-focused foundation. We're proud of the strong NCL, Inc. legacies they built that will impact communities, and the mothers and daughters in them for generations to come.

NCL's First Annual
Mother Daughter Tribute Journal
Last year, 44 NCL Families participated in the Annual Mother-Daughter sponsorship opportunity. This year, the Conference hosts of Region V shaped that idea into the creation of an Annual Mother/Daughter Tribute Journal. Chapter participation grew tremendously with over 200 of our members choosing to honor mothers and daughters in the Journal. This opportunity was open to, not only mothers and daughters, but to Sustainer groups, individual Chapters, ECAs, grandmothers, and any NCL member or group who wished to show recognition. Every participating member received a tribute bracelet. What a wonderful idea! Through the efforts and creativity of Region V, the Mother/Daughter Tribute Journal generated over $12,000 this year! Thank you to all our members for your gracious support and Region V for your efforts in this project. A special thank you to chapters in District 3 for generating the most support. We honor the power of relationships through service together as mothers, daughters, friends, role models, mentors and leaders!

College Network Directory
Congratulations to all our 2014 high school graduates! There were over 3,100 Ticktockers completing The NCL Experience this year! Many of these young ladies are preparing to begin their freshman year of college. It's exciting times for them and for NCL because it represents an opportunity for our Ticktockers to stay connected and support each other during this next chapter in their lives. National's goal is to create a virtual support network for all NCL members, including sustainers. For our Sustainer Ticktockers, we're building a college network directory so we hope you'll consider providing your graduate Ticktocker's college information so that this directory becomes a great resource for our girls to stay connected! The possibilities are endless, but it starts with you.
If you would like to include your daughter's information in a member-only college network directory please click the link below. This resource will only be accessible to members through the National website. The current directory is available on the Sustainers Page, national website.
Please complete a survey submission for each Ticktocker.
