In 1978 I worked my first TMEA convention while working for Whittle Music Co. in Dallas, TX and a few years later working for Pender's in Denton, TX. Since founding Muncy Winds Music Co. 1987 I have not missed a single TMEA Convention. A lot of things have changed the past 35 years, but one thing that hasn't changed is how I feel about the people I serve. You may think our journey starts when we get on the airplane headed for San Antonio and the TMEA Convention. That's not the case.  We start in about mid January picking and packing our products to go on about six skids and then on to a truck headed for San Antonio.  Once everything arrives it is put into storage waiting for our staff arrival.  Tuesday we work to take care of the last minute details then board the plane for a late arrival in San Antonio. Then Wednesday, the day before the show opens, our skids are delivered to our booth.  The cost of drayage from storage to our booth is usually as much or more than the trucking cost from our facility to the San Antonio, TX.  Our staff arrives on the Wednesday before the show opens on Thursday and we begin unpacking everything and starting the setup.

 

Wednesday the diligent task of setting everything up begins.  Setting the glass counters in place, installing the displays, and setting up a computer network is just the start.

 

Everything we shipped to San Antonio weeks before must be accounted for and put in the proper place so that we are able to locate these items in order to show them to you when the doors open the next day at the convention hall.

Display Setup

Getting the booth setup usually takes more than eight hours of setup time just to get the booth looking like the picture on the left instead of the picture above. Then we must test our computer and security system to make sure it is working properly and put the finishing touches on the booth Wednesday evening.  After that it's time for a well deserved shower, margarita, and a good dinner at a favorite Mexican restaurant on the River Walk.

The River Walk in San Antonio is beautiful.  It winds through downtown San Antonio and right up to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center where the exhibit hall is located.

The crowd gathers as they wait for the doors to open, and when they do it is a mad rush into the exhibit area, and plenty of them are looking for Muncy Winds Music.

Then we are off and running for three days assisting customers at the convention.

 

Coming back to Muncy Winds Music takes some planning too.  First we must spend our Saturday night packing everything back up after the show, getting it all on the skids and then on to the truck headed back to Muncy Winds Music.
