It's the Weekly What? for Friday, February 1st

It's February! So pink and candy-like...

Yeah right. This is the month that we can develop diabetes just walking into a store, the air so heavy and sickly with the smell of billions of pounds of candy. That and perfume. Everything is so stinky in February! But hey, there's always the Superbowl to look forward to, right? So many awesome ads, the crazy half-time show and there's some sort of sporting activity in there somewhere, too. Speaking of half-time shows, don't forget to stop by our Facebook page and answer this week's question! "What's your favorite song right now?"

Ah, poor Helvetica. So loved and so hated.

The author of this article on the undying popularity of the Helvetica typeface skips any preamble and just goes straight to flipping out. Even if you're not a typophile or typo-nerd, this is a fun read if for no other reason than to read the ravings of someone really hatin' on a typeface. C'mon guy, seriously. It's just a font. Rarrr! Arrgh rawr Helvetica raargh! >>

And now for something completely cute...

Just look at this classic compact Mac recreated in LEGO! Hello world! >>

How to avoid the dreaded "butt brush"

We apologize for the sensationalistic headline. Here's a quick read that may be of interest to those of you with retail spaces to manage. No, you don't need to be the manager of Gargantu-Mart to benefit from these tips. Mom and Pop shops with gain just as much. Make that entrance sensational: Ooo, swish! >>

Here's what an awful marketing email looks like...

No... not this one! We're talking about the linked article. It discusses what makes for a bad, nasty, no-good marketing email. Y'know: learn how to do it right by looking at what's wrong. Although, looking back we seem to be guilty of "Awful no-good marketing email thing #6" and for that we apologize. Anyway, give this a read and make sure your email blasts are up to snuff. (They're still called "blasts," aren't they?) Beware the boring email! >>

Oh frabjous day! Grover owns Twitter!

Lovable, furry old Grover puts a Twitterverse spin on the classic children's book "There is a monster at the end of this book." And in doing so he apparently wins the entire Internet! WHAT DID THAT SAY?? >>

See what's going on with Twitter users around the world

This is a really amazing bit of data visualization. Keep watching the map, and over time you'll see where all the activity is happening (One spoiler: the eastern half of the US is more a-Twitter than those of us in the west.) It's interesting to see where the activity concentrates. Power tip: Make the window fill your screen and you can pretend you're an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. monitoring global internet traffic for Gamma radiation or something! At least until the boss stops by and asks you to come in this weekend. Um yeah. Even the lame, boring tweets looks good this way! >>

Look at me, now look away, now back to me...

Anything is possible when you smell like a monster! (And know the word "on.") >>

The Weekly What? is more fun when you share! It's easy, just click the "Forward email" link below... keep going... a little farther down... there it is! Send this newsletter to a friend! Don't worry, we won't hit them up for money.
