It's the Weekly What? for Friday, November 2nd

Don't ever want to see candy again...

The tremendous build-up and then... poof! it's gone. Only the lingering sugar hangover remains. Likely because of the sugar sweet overload, we begin thinking of the Yang to the Yin of Halloween candy. You all know what that means, right? (No, not that our entire calendar must revolve around eating.) That right, the savory allure of a fine Thanksgiving spread! No costumes required, just eating! Turkey! Biscuits! Gravy! Sweet potato marshmallow casserole! (Well, not that last one so much.) Food aside, we've got another humdinger of a newsletter for you this week! All sorts of random things that'll waste time that would be better spent filing papers, faxing stuff, and spreadsheeting data. Once you're done with the newsletter, why don't you click over to our Facebook page and weigh in on this week's question? Try it, it'll be fun! "What would you do: Parallel park or circle the block multiple times looking for a better spot?"

The "Candy Bowl II" battle for supremacy

The Oregonian newspaper recently decided to pit a bunch of candies against each other in a carbohydrate cage match. Many would enter, wishing to reign supreme over all other candies. Sweet would square off against sweet until just two remained. The final confrontation of Butterfinger and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups promised to be epic. (Yet a little one-sided in our opinion. Butterfinger? Really?!) Finally, only one would leave the ring of fire, the domain of doom. Who was it? Butterfinger or Reese's?? Go see!

Let's get right down to business

We suppose that this is tantamount to dessert before dinner, (clicking the one good link before getting into the "meat and potatoes" of the rest of the newsletter) but what the heck. You only live once, right? So that means it's time for bouncing cats. (Secret: Click on "wut the wut?" for tips on bouncing the bouncy cats.) Look for "Make it rain" to make it rain cats and... well just cats. Lots and lots of cats. Check it out! >>

Behind the scenes: creation of a New Yorker cover

So what exactly goes into the creation of an illustration for the cover of the New Yorker magazine? Here's an interesting peek into the process of taking a theme through rough sketches to final design. Read more >>

Probably the last/only political infographic we'll post for a while

As far as infographics go, this one's a doozy. It's interactive! You can click on it, drag sliders, and reveal all sorts of interesting/boring data on presidential and congressional elections. For the last 156 years! For example you can click on on of the innermost stars reveals data about that particular state...urg...consciousness slipping...must...stay... awake... But it's a fantastic piece of design work, though! >>

So, a bunch of 10 year-olds walk into an ad agency...

Sounds like the set up for a baffling or possibly lame joke about creative types and ad agencies, right? Well, see there's this agency in Toronto (you know, up there... in "The Great White North") and to mark their 10th birthday they decided to let a bunch of 10 year-old run things for a day including creating campaign concepts and pitching to clients. It's a pretty accurate reflection of how things work around here, right down to the juice boxes! (But with more cats) "It's not hard but you can get really tired.">>

Epic collection of epic disasters in infomercials is epic

You know how it is: You sit down to enjoy a ginormous bowl of cheesy poofs and the durn phone rings. You're able to answer it okay but it's the hang-up that's truly fraught with peril. One wrong move and AIIIEE! there go your cheesy poofs all over the floor. Don't get us started about the horrors of folding camp chairs. Eating with a spoon? Never in life has a simple task been so difficult or potentially embarrassing. (Never mind the stains!) We're sure you'll be able to identify with some of the horrible disasters presented in this gallery of domestic doom (Read the article and then click through to the gallery.) Gosh darn cans of soda getting all over my keyboard! >>

A cat and his boxes

So, there's this cat that loves to sit in boxes (what cat doesn't?). In this video, he's presented with increasingly small boxes in which to sit. Sort of. Perplexity ensues >>

The Weekly What? is more fun when you share! It's easy, just click the "Forward email" link below... keep going... a little farther down... there it is! Send this newsletter to a friend! Don't worry, we won't hit them up for money.
